Hola.

A friend told me about a website which lists various magazines and the types of fiction they tend to buy. I've had no luck finding this site -- any ideas/leads?

Go to the bookstore. Buy a copy of The Writer's Market. Problem solved.

Is that a magazine, or a book?

It is indeed a book, published every year, that has the names & addresses of dman near ever publishing magazine & house in the US & perhaps Canada (& maybe the world; it's been a while since I leafed through it). I'd suggest a used one if you can find it; 1997 or 8 shouldn't be too dramatically different than 2001, but 1991 proabably would be; a lot of smaller houses have folded or been reabsorbed into their parents, while newer places have popped up. It truly is the most invaluable tool for the writer who seriously wishes to shop his craft. There are other similar books for songwriting & (I bleieve, but don't quote me) screenwriting, art, & poetry.
