I just bought an upgrade version of Filemaker Pro 6 for myself. In the box, I found a coupon for $50 off a purchase of a new (non-upgrade, non-educational) version of FMP 6. It also stated that this coupon is freely transferable.

Now, I have no use for another version of Filemaker. So I'm just wondering if anyone here was considering buying Filemaker. If you are, send me a private message or e-mail, and I'd be happy to mail it to you. No charge. First come, first serve.

Filemaker Pro is a very, very good database application for both Macintosh and Windows. I've used it for nearly seven years now, although only for small personal files and a Star Trek database that has never really seen the light of day. (Something similar to Captain Mike's Galactopedia.) My father also uses FMP, and literally every aspect of his business (he's a one-man consulting company) involves Filemaker. He's created analysis programs, tree tracker databases, and other helpful stuff. There's a whole lot that it can do. The nearest comparable product is Microsoft Access, but by all accounts, FMP is a heck of a lot more versatile and powerful.

yes we use it to track returns at WFM and print out the customer credit slips premade rather than writing them out like other stores do.

i've theorized it would be helpful for the Galactopedia, and my orphaned shiplist project. (i used to use Microsoft Works for Win3.1, because i find Access unusable for my purposes, but i have neither on this computer and ive been itching to sort large amounts of data)

how much does it cost before the coupon?

I believe that a new version costs something like $250. It's a bit expensive for just a hobby. Fortunately, I didn't have to buy one in my early stages of developing the database, because we only had one computer. And since my dad had bought an extra copy before buying the Developer's Edition a while later, I got the "extra" one, and now only have to pay for upgrades.

One of these days, you're going to spell "stuff" w/o an 's', a 't', a 'u', or an 'f', and I'm going to have no idea what's going on...

Correction: Filemaker Pro 6 costs $299 before any discounts. They've been jacking up the prices, it seems...
