Yesterday, the president declared a proclamation. In his proclamation, President Bush named December 7 Pearl Harbor Remembrance Day. This got to me thinking. Do you think our Congress will someday pass a law which recognizes 9-11 as a National Remembrance Day? This event is, I think, in many ways more profound and prophetic than the sneak attack on a naval base over sixty years ago. We are already experiencing the shock waves of this tragedy more than a year later.

I think we should have such a day. This day should be a time for us to reflect on those murdered by terrorists and our constant struggle in preserving our rights and freedoms from oppression.

I suppose this will wing its way quickly to the Flameboard, and I will deal with that in the morning, but: Least necessary proclamation ever. What's next, the official announcment that December 25th is Official American Christmas Day?

There is a National Thanksgiving Day proclamation.

And, if you are blind and need a white cane, there is a National White Cane Day Proclamation. The day is to honor your struggles and successes as a blind person using a white cane. It was proclaimed on Oct. 11, 2002. [Big Grin]

This does seem fairly pointless; I think that most people will remember what happened at Pearl Harbor and when anyway. Not to mention that on both sides of the Atlantic the 11th November is already used as a memorial to all those who have died in all wars.

Whether we like it or not, I'm pretty certain there will be a 9-11 remembrance day. When it will be established, I cannot say.

I'm fairly certain that sitting presidents ALL issue similar proclamations on a yearly basis, much like Congress issues official 'congratulatory bills' on certain people's birthdays or with certain achievements.
