At this present moment, I am relaxing at my new place of residence, a nice bachelor apartment at the heart of Toronto. After almost 5 years of renting a room of a house, I now have a place I could truly classify as my own.

Mind you, I still have a lot to unpack, but fortunately for me, when I called my internet and cable provider for service on Wednesday, they had a cancellation that just opened up for Thursday, and so a couple of guys came over that day to set it up. A great relief, I think I would have to go crazy if I could not get my internet up and running.

Today will probably be spent shopping for various items for my house. Among them is a dish rack and drainer, microwave, shoe mat, chair mat, slippers, wastebaskets etc. etc. The apartment also needs a little mopping as it was just replastered, and the floors are still a bit dirty.

The place itself is quite pricey given its location. $760 per month (CDN$) and that includes an underground parking space. I do make a comfortable amount of dough at my present job enough to afford this apartment, but I still need to be wary.... you don't want to lose your job the moment you start a lease. They always say that a move is a risky thing to undertake....

Wish me luck!!!

$760 for a bachelor? Yikes. That much in Fredericton would get you a three bedroom apartment. This is why I don't see myself living in Toronto anytime soon...

Try moving to San Diego or anywhere else in socal, a three bedroom is well over $2000 a month.

I'm slightly annoyed at Hobbes' rather rude decision to be much more attractive than me though. That's just rude. - PsyLiam, Oct 27, 2005.

That's just...wrong.

By bueatiful 2 bedroom in downtown FT. Lauderdale is $760 per month, but directly across the road are apartments starting at $1500 for a one bedroom!

Madness! Madness I say!

I'm currently renting an actual house for $805 per month, and not one of those attached units either. We're talking an honest-to-god house complete with grass on all sides. Our landlord is extremely nice and I've always said (not to him!) that he severely undercharges us.

Yes, but where do you live?
Shelbyville, I bet.

No one wants to live in Shelbyville.

I'm in one of the nicer suburbs of St. Louis. But I'll give you the fact that it's St. Louis, in the state of Misery, er, Missouri.

(Grew up in the Southeast, would very much like to move back there.)

Because you miss blizzards and crime?

Seriously, move to the south.....er...in spite of all that hurricane stuff, it's really quite lovely.

Really.

Well, Southeast covers a lot- Georgia gets TEH SNOW!
North Florida just gets cold as fuck with nothing to show for it.

But then, I consider 50 degrees "cold as fuck", so your mileage may vary.

Gee, and it doesn't snow? Imagine that. After all, it's only 18 degrees above the freezing point of water...

I grew up in North Georgia, and we got on average two days of snow per year. When it did snow, everyone stayed home and waited for the snow to melt, which took maybe a day. Here in St. Louis, it doesn't snow that much more, but it stays on the ground for a month, and they still expect you to go to work! That's just unAmerican there!

And Jason, I also consider 50 degrees "cold as fuck" (even 60 is really pushing it), so you can imagine how I feel about it staying below 40 degrees for months on end.
