Kodak's easyshare software is quite nice. Unfortunately, its installer isn't. After I reinstalled windows, I tried to reinstall the easyshare software, and... it doesn't work. All sorts of files get written to the hard drive, but there are neither shortcuts nor executables for the actual easyshare software. Their tech support is utterly useless; even after going to the next level up, all they ever tell me to do is uninstall and reinstall the software, and offer to send me the latest version on a CD again. There are no error messages. Virus scanner, firewall, even google desktop, all off. I've got no idea what could be causing this. Any proposals?

Friend of mine had a similar problem a while back. No idea if it's related, though; in his case, the Windows Installer was somehow messed up after running SP2 and had to be completely ripped out before ES would install. That... took some doing.

Windows Installer. The part of Windows that installs things.

I wasn't aware that that was an integral part of Windows. That would explain it.

Problem resolved. It was their UNinstaller that was frelled, the installer just didn't notice. Uninstaller failed to remove all traces of the program from the registry, so the installer didn't reinstall things properly, thinking they were already there. Duh. Manual registry fiddling fixed the problem. Didn't occur to me that their program specifically designed to clean the registry of all traces of Kodak software might not work as advertised. [Smile]

That only took a month...
