Mel needs to just pack up his millions and retire someplace where he can quietly manage his "issues" whatever they may be. Perhaps we need term limits on movie stars. It isn't like Mel and Tom Cruise couldn't be replaced if they weren't there to make Action Movie XXV: A New Explosion Effect.
