Coming to Reelection Campaigns and Toy Boxes Near You

Holy photo op, Batman! The president of the United States has become a military action figure.

When President Bush landed on the USS Abraham Lincoln three months ago in a naval flight suit, many commentators believed that the image of the vigorous president on the aircraft carrier would figure prominently in his reelection campaign. What the commentators did not predict is that Bush would become his own G.I. Joe doll.

Coming soon to a store near you: a foot-tall likeness of the president called "Elite Force Aviator: George W. Bush -- U.S. President and Naval Aviator."

Blue Box Toys, a Hong Kong-based company, will be distributing the Bush dolls through KB Toys starting Sept. 15. "Exacting in detail and fully equipped with authentic gear, this limited-edition action figure is a meticulous 1:6 scale recreation of the Commander-in-Chief's appearance during his historic Aircraft Carrier landing," states the breathless promotion.

For just $39.99, you get a plastic model of Bush wearing flight suit, survival vest and parachute harness, jauntily carrying helmet and oxygen mask -- just as Bush did on May 1 after climbing out of his S-3B Viking aircraft. The Bush doll joins many other Navy Seals, Blue Angels and World War II aviators in Blue Box's "Elite Force" series.

Bush is the first president to be so honored, "and maybe the last," said the company's spokeswoman, Lauri Aibel, who notes that some complaints have already been received. "We don't condone or endorse the president, but he fit the criteria of our Elite Force collection. . . . It would have to be somebody in uniform, a military hero of some kind, or depicting a military uniform."

Aibel said advance orders for the Bush doll are coming in at a record clip, though Blue Box has done no publicity or advertising yet. Blue Box Toys did not request permission from the White House for use of Bush's likeness, and a White House spokeswoman had no comment yesterday.

The company recommends that only those 14 and older use the Bush doll, which it says is an "adult collectible item" and emphatically not a toy. It may, in fact, pose a choking hazard for the president's Democratic opponents.

Bush is a military hero now? Have I woken up into an alternate universe or something?

Another review:
quote:

This....This is digusting - a G W Bush ACTION FIGURE. From "Democratic
Underground's top 10 conservative idiots" :

Get your buckets ready folks, because this is going to be a puke-fest! Last
week, KB Toys started selling Blue Box International's latest creation, the
gag-inducing Elite Force Aviator: George W. Bush - U.S. President and Naval
Aviator 12" Action Figure. The figure comes complete with "authentic gear"
and according to the blurb on KB Toys website (get those buckets ready)
"this limited-edition action figure is a meticulous 1:6 scale recreation of
the Commander-in-Chief's appearance during his historic Aircraft Carrier
landing. On May 1, 2003, President Bush landed on the USS Abraham Lincoln
(CVN-72) in the Pacific Ocean, and officially declared the end to major
combat in Iraq. While at the controls of an S-3B Viking aircraft from the
'Blue Sea Wolves' of Sea Control Squadron Three Five (VS-35), designated
'Navy 1,' he overflew the carrier before handing it over to the pilot for
landing. Attired in full naval aviator flight equipment, the President then
took the salute on the deck of the carrier." Urgh, my stomach. Interestingly
Blue Box International seem to have failed to accurately model George W.
Bush's embarrassing swollen balls problem, and have instead elected to
minimize the crotch area to such a degree that Bush now looks like a flying
eunuch. We can't wait for Blue Box's next authentic and historically
accurate figure, Elite Force Aviator: George W. Bush - Draft Dodger and AWOL
Coke Snorter 12" Action Figure, complete with a 1:6 scale letter from George
H.W. Bush to the commander of the Texas Air National Guard, fully detailed
civilian clothing (including sun visor), and an authentic empty urine sample
bottle.

Well, at least George the war hero is on a FICTIONAL team......

I just imagine I were a huge fan of Mr. Bush, and something urged me to buy this figure. Would that be possible in a toy shop without being *seriously* embarrassed? I think it may have about the same embarrassment level as an inflatable girl-friend doll, rather worse.

There's been a JFK G.I.JOE for years already.

Ahh, but you forget his heroic act of learning to spell. And read, for that matter. Logical speech is not that far away. So I hear, from the scuttlebutt.

Look at the tightly-gurled grip of his left hand. I wonder what's meant to be held by that?

I think that answers your question, Lee. Eew.

I wonder if the line will be extended with Zombie Overlord Rumsfeld and the Blair Handpuppet.
