When Voyager hits maximum warp. It can cross 0.727272727272727272727272727272727 of a light year in an hour and since Voyager can sustain maximum warp for 12 hours(8.72 light years in that time) How come they insist on keeping Voyager down to warp 6.2 (438xlight speed) so that it can only cross 1.2 light years in a day!(at that rate Voyager should get home in 171.232years!!) I know they reduced to avoid an early approach to the Beta Quadrant. in it's final season Voyager should meet a starship who has been away from Earth for 20 years on a deep deep space mission. This ship is a Ambassordor class and the crews get along well. The Captain in charge knew Janeway's father. Janeway's only memory of him is as a fifthteen year girl being trained on a shuttle simulation by both him and her father They meet a hostile species who the Ambassordor class crew have have bad dealings with. The two crews part company after finding Voyager a route through this species space. Voyager engages her warp engines and is being pursued by this species and they attack. Voyager sheilds begin to buckle and Voyager fires all weapons @ them suddenly it looks like they're going to lose this battle.... Suddenly out of nowhere the ambassordor comes out of nowhere and takes the fire of the enemy ships Voyager increases speed to maximum and the fierce battle going drops away..... suddenly there is an almighty expolison (starfleet warp core breach) with a huge schockwave Voyager manages to outrun it but the enemy ships can't and are destoryed. Voyager drops out of warp and own to half full impulse to conduct repairs. She is clear of the species space. THE END

Riiiiiiight ...

Dude, please please PLEASE: commas, paragraphs ...

Learn 'em. Know 'em. Love 'em. For godsake's, USE 'EM!

Anywaaaaay ... onto the warp speed. Voyager probably needs to contain its power. They can't sustain maximum warp forever, so it probably would take LONGER To fly at max warp for how long, then repair whatever damage maxing out at max does, then redoing the cycle ... ya dig?

Wait ... Janeway is being trained in tactical sims at the ripe young age of FIFTEEN?????????

Where in the world did you get 0.727272727272727272727272727272727 from?

Shouldn't this stuff be in the creativity forum?

They said in 'Caretaker' already that it would take 75 years at maximum warp! That is going almost warp 8 all the time.

With all those stops and side-trips Janeway is taking, it will take a hell of a lot more than that.

IIRC: Voyager has a maximum substained velocity of warp 9.975 for 12 hours. This probably puts the warp core on overdrive. 12 hours is the safety limit, they could possibly try to push it, but it might burn out the core.

Warp 6 appears to be the average speed Voyager can maintain without damaging the core, or needing to stop to let it cool down. Considering it's a constant internal combustion of matter/anti-matter instead of gas, it probably gets a bit hot.

With Voyager being an advanced ship though, I think that it should be able to do warp 7 or even 8.

First, that is the single post impressive topic title I've ever seen in this forum.

Second, Voyager may be advanced, but it also lacks a ready source of replacement parts. So even run of the mill parts than could be replaced in 5 minutes in the Alpha Quadrant might be hard to replace. So, they go slower to avoid wearing out stuff that they can't fix.

Why would Janeway be going slowly to avoid the Beta Quadrant? That makes no Earth sense.
