Why do I get the feeling that once we all get a taste of 'Enterprise' we will all be begging Paramount to bring back Voyager for an 8th season......

I don't know why I posted this, I just wanted to.

I know that when I got a taste of "Voy", I was begging them to bring back TNG.

Hmmm... it took me a fairly substantial taste of Voyager to get a similar feeling... about halfway through the first season...

Some people felt that in the first season of TNG to bring back TOS...

The whole concept of Survivor is get your average Joe and put him/her on the show and see how they react. Afterwards even though they did not win they make money by appearing on shows. There is no point in having to win a million dollars! They will make that amount in 2 months after appearing on 100 different shows!

People who doomsay a show before it airs really, really, REALLY need to be struck on the head by a large mallet of some sort.

I'm immune because I never said that personally.

I'm not bagging the actual show as such, more the fact that people haven't been happy with Voyager... so what is going to change in the space of less than a few months between Voyager's quality and Enterprise's quality? The Producers are the same, most of the crew is the same (no Rick Sternbach) and carbon copy actors/characters... oh throw in a Sci-fi "known" and kick out a Senior illustrator... THAT CHANGES EVERYTHING!

Bart: No, it hasn't, Dad. That's why we're leaving.
Homer: Oh, yeah. [pokes his head out the window] So long, Stinktown!

I'm taking the hit with the mallet, and I'll remind you some time in the first season...

No, never the first season. No show has it's "legs" in the first season. How about midway through the second, barring cast changes?

At which point (which episode #) did TNG really begin to "get its legs"? Opinion? This would give us a measuring stick by which to expect Enterprise to come of Age.

Actually, looking back, "The Big Goodbye" was probably the turning point, just in that it was the first ep that doesn't scream "TOS!" in my mind.

And DS9, I think, got its legs early, with "Progress", "Duet", and "In The Hands of the Prophets" all in the later end of the first season.

By contrast, "Voyager" still hasn't gotten its legs.

"Highlander: The Series" did some stumbling through its first two seasons, but hit a super-high for their third, fourth, and fifth seasons before crashing (hard) for the sixth season.

I think Trek is incredibly lucky in that they have the time for a show to improve. Most new shows, like Harsh Realm, will go off the air in three or 4 weeks if they can't pull in enough viewers, regardless if this is because of lack of advertizing, a difficult concept, poor time slot, or the fact that the show is simply is ill-conceived or poorly written. Any Trek show, even an unpopular one like Voyager, has a dedicated base audience and still makes a profit, I guess, so is allowed to continue and, hopefully, improve without worrying about cancellation. Most shows never get that chance.

As for Enterprise: We shall see in August. I will watch and hope for the best.

I think TNG got goin' around 'Conspiracy,' It made me think that this would turn out to be pretty good. Then there was 'Q Who.' Gotta love the Borg at that time.

DS9? Easy, the tripe episode serving at the start of season 2.

VOY? Started with legs but had them chopped off after the pilot. Here and there it got crutches but never any new legs.
