I saw an actual honest to god bona fide no foolin' down home country goodness commercial for 'Enterprise' tonight. And damn if I weren't excited about it. No exterior's of the ship in the commercial, but some actual snipppets from the episode and all that. It actually - *forces words from throat* - looks good. Now please oh please let the ship NOT be the Akiraprize...

For those of us who are UPN-impaired, here's some eye candy:

And, UPN being UPN, T'Pol little striptease was snuck in there. Well, at least the mysteries of 22nd century underwear are revealed.

Damn. Voyager was not shown tonight because the local UPN affiliate felt it was more important to show the WNBA game between the Comets and whoever they were playing.

Picard: Mr. Crusher, what's our maximum speed this week?
Wesley: [checking manual] Uh, 9.4, sir.
Picard: Very good. Take us to Warp 9.8 then.
Wesley: Aye, sir. Warp 9.2 it is.

You link isn't working, man.

I hate to burst your bubble, but I have this bad feeling that our star ship WILL be the akiraprise. Bernd's website does have a link to a petition against the use of the akiraprise in Enterprise. I personnally have signed it. I trust you all did too, right? Some of the people who signed the petition apparently were to dumb to notice that it was a petition against the new design. My signature is number 604.

Well, I WOULD have signed it but:

1) Though the concept is noble, it really won't accomplish anything.

2) In 25 years, after I'm selected for the first Mars mission (shit, now I jinxed it) I don't need the press digging up an internet petition against a fictional spaceship from a two and a half decade old show.

I'd rather my petition signing days being remembered for the Mars Society Petition

"I hate to burst your bubble, but I have this bad feeling that our star ship WILL be the akiraprise."

What gave it away? The pics of it splashed all over TV Guide? Or the fact that it's visible on diplays on the Enterprise's bridge?

Yes, you're despicable, and... and picable... and... and you're definitely, definitely despicable. How a person can get so despicable in one lifetime is beyond me. It isn't as though I haven't met a lot of people. Goodness knows it isn't that. It isn't just that... it isn't... it's... it's despicable.

Well, first of all, where have you been, MIB? The so-called "akiraprise" design has been confirmed for about a week or so now. We've had a lot of threads criticizing and praising the design.

Second of all, Internet polls and petitions are not considered with any amount of validity. This comes straight from my marketing professor: no one seriously considered Internet polls and petitions because, too often, one person will vote many times and its harder to verify the names on Internet petitions than on paper petitions. If you wanted a petition to have an effect, mobilize a nationwide protest petition. It's worked in Star Trek before.

The "Bjo Trimble did it, so can we" philosophy that permeates every petition from "Make Brannon Braga work weekends" to "Star Trek fans hate steering wheels, get rid of it" is Star Trek on the Web's equivalent of herpes.

Hey! Cool! I just signed that petition a minute ago. Pack your bags! We are going to Mars! Do you think there is a hotel near or in the sphinx on mars?

(see thread: The face isn't the only artificial stucture on mars! :-) on the Officer's Lounge section.)

Oh, well god forbid I leave just a little bit of false hope that the akiraprise is a ruse only to get it smashed when I watch the premire of Broken Bow!!!
