What exactly is this game all about? I hear a lot of talk, but somehow flying galaxies and Defiants doesn't fit in with my ideas about the birth of the Federation. ????

The name of this game is misleading, yet the game is awsome. It basically lets you create a colony, and you can be either a Romulan colony, Cardassian colony, a Klingon colony, or a Federation colony.

You start out with one or two planets and then must survive while exploring and colonizing the galaxy.
I've played alot of conquer the galaxy games and what is cool about birth is that you are forced to play by the rules of whomever you choose to start as. If you're the federation you won't be sucessful trying to conquer everyone, however this is the klingon strategy to victory. Romulans, ferengi, and cardassians are in there too.

I agree that it may have been cooler to have really started with the beginning. You start with mirandas and ambassador class ships. If you do get this game go
to the microprose website and get the latest patch.
It improves the computer ai quite a bit. The coolest thing is the 3d models of the ships. One of the best visuals i've ever seen in a game is a 40 or 50 ship fleet taking on a couple of borg cubes. beautiful!

Yes it definately is a pretty cool game.
And if you eventually get Defiant class vessels, you can really kick @$$.

I hate this. The comp I have at home stinks and I don't have my own here at college. I've missed all of the cool games for the past 4 years. Not just Star Trek games but all of them.

I heard Star Trek: BoTF sucks. It randomly generates the galaxy so Vulcan can end up right next to Feriginar.....

If you've played Masters of Orion II, then imagine that, change the names...erm...and that's about it.

Well, it's a bit more different. And of COURSE it generates teh Galaxy randomly. That's called sacrifising realsim for playabiblity. Besides, do YOU know how far apart ferenginar and Vulcan actually are?

The graphics are a bit pants though, I'll give you that.
