There are a couple pages here full of costume sketches and filming props I thought some might be interested in seeing.

I thought of particular interest were the panel from the Pegasus, the Tricorders, and Kes' outfit from Voyager. Because you know... anything that Jennifer Lien has sweated in...

Wow. Not only the Star Trek stuff, but scanning all those pages listed, there's some rather interesting items. Some stuff from the original Battlestar Galactica, Planet of the Apes, and many Star Wars items, including Vader's lightsaber from ESB and Luke's severed hand! If only I had some spare cash lying around!

Yep. Lots o' cool schwag. I can't even imagine how wealthy I would need to be to see a $50,000 movie prop up for auction and seriously consider buying it.

Ah, yes - Profiles in History. The prop community spends a lot of time lusting after some of the lots in their auctions. Then they console themselves with, say, a screen-used crate label that appeared in a cargo bay in one of the Trek films, for about $50.

From the description of the First Contact type II: "Boomerang phaser made of resin painted silver and black, with red trigger which depresses to simulate firing." So the buttons on the high quality close-up props actually moved? (Or at least this one did?)

Tosk's mask starts at only $200!

That would rock to have.

There are many degrees of props. The most basic distinction is between Hero (for close-up shots, often with electronics, moving parts etc) and Stunt (often made of rubber). Although I've never heard of or seen an actual example of a screen-used boomerang with depressable button(s), I know plenty of people who are quite obsessive about the level of detail that should or shouldn't go into a prop (for example: no sound-generating capabilities because sound is added in post-production and to have sound would make it a toy, dammit) who've built replicas (usually from kits, I think roddenbery.com does or did a kit that could have this function added to it, if indeed it wasn't already a main feature) with the springy-buttons.

Whereas I just went out and got the Master Replicas FC phaser with sounds and everything. The novelty soon palls. Now it's just in the display case on my shelf. I must get it ou, put the batteries back in, and have a play.

Those tricorders are sweet though....I've seen kits to make the old PLaymates toy into a perfect prop- with sounds and lights and whatnot.

http://masterreplicas.com/customer/startrek/startrek_product_detail.php?pid=8329 - if you have 350 bucks to spare, that is. I know a dealer might be able to come down on that, though.

Next year they might be doing the STV/VI Assault Phaser. Yum. And Art Asylum are bringing out the black&white version of the TOS Phaser.

I've seen really nice resin props of the FC compression phaser rifle.
..not that tuning fork from Voyager, mind you, the good looking one.

There are a few kicking around. People who manufacture kits of the rifle tend to keep a low profile to avoid the wrath of Viacom. One of my contacts has just brought out a beautiful kit, for $200 ($300 assembled and painted), and I'm saving up right now. . . Well, trying to. You can even have a choice of FC/Ins or Nem scope.
