57. Wow.

For better or worse, he *did* do a mountain of work for the franchise. He gave us DS9 and then Voyager, and a lot of episodes within. See ya later, dude.

He's the guy I think should have inherited the Trek Franchise instead of Berman. Sad to see him go.

At the risk of speaking ill of the dead - and, worse, making Griffy think I'm deliberately having a go at him - I'm not sure I agree. It's late, I'm tired, I can just about remember where my car is in the car park, so I'm not about to go into an extended disquisition on Piller's positive/negative effects on Trek vs. Berman's. But if Insurrection is anything to go by. . .

I have two things to say to that: "Enterprise" and "Nemesis". Oh, wait. That's three things....

My thinking is that with Piller in charge, we'd have gotten much better Trek, overall. "Insurrection" wasn't nearly as bad as "Nemesis".

Plus, weren't Piller's original intentions for Insurrection somewhat darker and more DS9-like than what Berman and others eventually forced it into being? The overall writing of the film wasn't bad at all, I don't think. It was all the hackneyed "comic reflief" and Data's childlike romping that was deleterious. That and the fact that the VFX were crap.

Hey but shut up about ENT, you, lest I unleash my mad monkey wrath on your ass. [Mad]

I seem to recall that the original script treatment for INS was a bit darker, as well as a slightly different plotline.

Nuthin' personal, but I ain't apologizin' for my comments on ENT. The first two years were a major disappointment and a bastardization of what it coulda/shoulda been. Season Three wasn't too bad and Season Four was what we shoulda had the first three seasons of the show. For the most part, B&B pretty much set back and didn't mess w/the series much that last season which is why we got some quality Trek, IMNSHO.

So, there you go. Overall, I feel that ENT was highly disappointing, to say the least. Don't like it? Better sick a whole troop of yer monkey's on me, 'cause just one or two ain't gonna cut it. [Wink]

Don't get me started on VOY....

I think Enterprise's first season was better than its third, all things considered.

Oh man, Star Trek-related opinionating!

It is too bad about Mr. Piller, though, who was responsible for lots of things I remember fondly.

I haven't read the article link but... my first reaction was FUCK! That's just... too young.

RIP Michael Piller, God speed.

Sad to see someone go so soon- he was involved with a ton of great work in Trek and eventually (like Babe Ruth) the misses will be forgotten while the hits are remembered fondly.

57 is pretty damn yuong, but I actually thought he was younger than that.
