I thought these were quite well done - and makes you wonder why Trek didn't employ some of it's fantastic effects more to their opening credits...

This is another intro that's well done, DS9 with the BSG theme and similar titles.

All these stupid things focus immediately & totally on the Dominion War. Way for the creators to miss the point.

You realize, of course, that the Dominion War was more than a quarter of the series, right? And, for that matter, that the BG theme, at least, really lends itself to scenes with explosions and fighting and such.

Very little more than a quarter. And there was far more to DS9 than the war as you well know. Yet that's all anyone ever focuses on.

Well, Dominion War focus-y or not, the DS9/SG1 intro was the best of the videos in this thread so far. It really felt like watching a DS9 intro done by the SG1 guys. It also seemed the most professionally done.

Yes, but the war was the defining part of the series. DS9 begins with the exploration of a new corner of the galaxy and the rebuilding of a decimated planet and culture, but when the war begins, the whole tone of the series changes. It's not about seeking out new life anymore, it's about survival. Of course character development and strong writing were what really made DS9 great, but these are 30 second intro sequences, not retrospective documentaries. They're bound to take advantage of eye catching effects sequences between introducing the actors.

And what did the original titles tell us about the series anyway? They mainly focussed on the station looking dismal.

Yes, war, war, war, war. That's all that should be focused on. Nothing about Bajor's near-death & resurrection. Nothing about the major part they played in Federation foreign relations. And certainly nothing about how this backwater world that interested no one but archaeologists & anthropologists was suddenly super important & how they deal with that. None of that at all. Explodey bits forever.

I think less people talking and more, dramatic turns to face the camera would've been better. And the Voyager one didn't work because there were too many shots of the hero ship getting knocked around.
