If you are (a) interested and (b) otherwise unaware of its existence: http://www.startrek.com/startrek/view/features/bst/article/2301143.html

I hope this leads to commentary tracks for TNG and DS9 (and, OK, Voyager, why not?).

Sure, but commentary on episodes? I mean, isn't this a bit of a leap? Movies? Episodes? (Not that commentary tracks on television episodes are unheard of, I just think you're making a leap...)

Also - have you heard Frakes' commentary on "First Contact"? It's the best commentary track ever - he's like a kid in a candy store. I was disappointed he didn't do one for "Insurrection."

I'm not sure I follow. Startrek.com has already hosted downloadable commentary tracks for episodes. (Of Enterprise, specifically. Of the mirror universe two-parter, even more specifically. And maybe others, I'm not sure.) Battlestar Galactica, of course, does this for every episode, and multiple times for some of them. So has Lost. Uh, Scrubs, I guess. One episode of Stargate Atlantis. A special lost commentary for The Venture Bros.

But my real point is that compared to some modern DVD sets, TNG and DS9 seem a little light on certain extras that I kind of consider standard, one of those being commentary. Well, the only one being commentary, really. And I'd especially like to hear from DS9's production staff. So, there you go.

(Other shows woefully commentaryless: Veronica Mars. Seriously, what's up WBCW?)

Sol:

You've backed yourself up on StarTrek.com doing episode commentaries, I didn't know they'd done any; and I do believe I mentioned that I knew other tv shows did commentary tracks, just not (to my knowledge) Star Trek.

Is that a NEW commentary for TMP because I'm pretty sure Wise did one for the Directors Cut (or whatever they called it) already?

There are, what, three commentary tracks on the DVD. (Maybe that includes Okuda's.)

Many stories have been told about the making of the movie, but we now have a comprehensive account of the making of the "Director's Edition," from the three people who know it best. Now, for your enjoyment, please sit back and listen, or watch and listen, to our exclusive podcast for "Star Trek: The Motion Picture The Director's Edition."
