Is there a Type XI phaser emitter?
- Most modern ships carry with them Type IX, X, or XII phaser emitters but there's no mention of a type XI. Why?
- Why is it that Exelsior class is more powerful in weaponaries than the Ambassador class?

Where has there been a type XII referenced?

I bet when Neanderthal kids would make a snowman, someone would
always end up saying "Don't forget the big heavy eyebrows." Then they would all get embarrassed because they remembered they had the big hunky eyebrows too, and then they would get mad and eat the snowman.

It's been suggested that the Ent-E has type XII arrays. I believe it's on the SciPubTech poster.

How incredibly trustworthy a source... *rolls eyes*

I believe X is highest phaser type we know of on ships. The TNGTM suggests that some facilities (planetside, IIRC) have type X+ phasers. This can either be construed to mean that "X+" is the actually term, and it is some sort of uprated type X, or that "X+" simply means XI, XII, XIII, whatever.

The DS9 TM says that planetary-defence Type XI units are also installed aboard DS9. Of course, the whole chapter on phasers is one big mess - Rick speaks of Types IX, X and XI (actually 9,10 and 11 - no Roman numerals any more) but seems to confuse them with each other.

I wouldn't trust any reports on ship phasers bigger than type 10. After all, who needs guns bigger than that? They can blow huge craters into a Borg cube, or drill through a planet's mantle. And don't give me that "as shields improve, so must the guns" stuff. If modern shields can block Type 10 phasers, then let's build BIGGER and BETTER Type 10 phasers. After all, the hand phasers are still Type 1 and Type 2, as they have been since TOS, except that nowadays they blow up buildings (although in dialogue only).

Uhm... no phaser (of any type yet seen) can blast entire HOLES in a Borg Cube, even if they alternate the frequency... they just cause explosions on the Cube's superstructure, but they certainly don't go straight through.

I didn't speak of holes, I said craters! As in, big pits carved into the surface. :P

Anyway, the first phaser shot a Starfleet ship takes on a Borg vessel, in "Q Who?", is a clean spear-through one. Granted, it is a miss, since Worf was aiming at the tractor beam emitter. And granted, it only goes through the corner of the Cube, not its entire thickness. But it's a spear-through all right. Way to go, Worf!

That was BEFORE they adapted to it After that, it didn't matter how good Worf's aim was...

To bad too, if the Enterprise went all out on the Cube in the beginning before they could of adapted that Cube would be destroyed.

As for what the DS9TM says about the phasers on board the station.

"The current total phaser system maintained aboard DS9 consists of two types, the standard linked type-10 emitter segments normally seen on starship hulls, and a newer version of the type-11 planetary defense emitter."

And follows with:

"The standard type-9 emitters were originally installed on the outward faces of the sail towers, in exactly the same locations previously occupied by the tetrahedral Cardassian phaser emitters."

What it's trying to say I think is that when Starfleet originally took over DS9 they installed type-9, but later as part of their defense upgrades took them out and replaced them with more powerfull phasers.

They wouldn't have destroyed it, but merely damaged its outer hull before the Borgies would adapt to their weapons and became invincible.

BTW: I don't think Worf would miss a target the "front" side of which is 3 by 3 kilometers!
