What's up with all that about a 'warhead' on the Defiant?

I seems the 'head' of the Defiant can be operated as an autonomous ship? It has it's own control room, sensors, impulse, and torp-launcher?

Am I to believe any of this?

It could've been intended as a last-ditch kamikaze-shuttle. I remember in "Valiant" it came off in the last volleys from the battleship.

The DS9 Tech Man says that it is just that. A seperable last ditch missle. It's loaded with warheads and does have a control room and small impulse drive (probably a one shot type of thing).

Remember in First Contact? Worf aboard the Defiant tells the conn officer to prepare to ram the ship into the cube. Now, it's true that Riker almost did the same thing with the E-D, but a war head in this location of the Defiant would make a kamikazee attack particularly effective. If the ship's engines are disabled, you shoot the thing off and use an impulse pulse to fire it into the cube (The Defiant was designed to fight the Borg).

One significant problem is that the "warhead" impulse engines would be floating in outer space if they're where the DS9TM depicts them to be. Unless those black pipes connecting to the nose are actually the impulse engines - they're certainy in the depicted location. Oh, let's not forget that the "warhead control room" was originally labelled as the mess hall (and pointed out as so by O'Brien in "Starship Down").

If you are reffering to the shuttle in Beast Wars, then I think it's the other way around. Beast Wars started when the Defiant was already introduced. Also, the shuttle wasn't seen until the third season of Beast Wars...
