Thought I'd make a new thread instead of cluttering the old one.

These ships were in the far background in the opening shot. One looks like a Bird-of-Prey, but the other two are a mystery. I once thought the largest one was a Saber, but then realized that there was no physical model for that class, like these are.

The other ship looks vaguely like a rear view of a Miranda, but I don't think it is, as it's orientation to the rest of the fleet would be different. Maybe it's the Constitution variant?

Anyway to get a bigger/better picture? I agree it looks like a BOP and a Miranda.

The Miranda could possibly be the Intrepid prototype. But the other one is definatly a BOP.

The BoP looks kind of like a K'Tinga too. The left ship has a very distinct constitution saucer.
Actually it fits my fan-miranda look, with the "legs" (nacelles) facing out the sides instead of downwards. 'Twould be more aerodynamical then, instead of looking like a trolley.

I assume all ships are traveling towards the camera, yeah?

I thought the K'tinga class was the movie cruiser type, rather than a BOP (and BOP's may have different size, but they all have the same physical model).

That was Chris Spinnler. He had the episode on laserdisc.

I examined exactly these two ships this weekend - no screencaps, sorry.

The upper one looks somewhat different than a Miranda, or it is only attributed to an odd viewing angle. I don't recall exactly, but there were at least two other Mirandas in the same scene. I wonder if they bothered to film still another Miranda and show it from a different angle. I think it's definitely not a Sabre, because the nacelles are well below the saucer. It could be an Akira, for the nacelles are far apart, but the saucer doesn't look like that. It could be the Constitution variant, but then I would expect two nacelles very close together.

The lower one is even more of a mystery. This doesn't seem to be one of the established ship classes. The strange thing is that, while all the ships are moving from the upper right to the lower left corner of the screen, the orientation of this ship is as if it would fly horizontally. It looks as if it is drifting.

The upper ship could be the "Constitution variant" if one disregards the bright spot to the lower left of the saucer. Then what's left is a Constitution saucer plus a flat structure dangling on the lower end of a Constitution neck - possibly that Miranda pod plus two lateral nacelles. But what IS that bright spot? Does it disappear as the ship moves, or something?

It would be no wonder if some of the ships were filmed drifting - the idea of this scene apparently was to show some damage. Perhaps the lower ship had to share towing time with the Frederickson - the single tug might have given a little pull here, a little push there to multiple powerless ships to keep them in formation.

One wonders if the VFX crew received those kitbashes, went "Uh-oh, now what are we gonna DO with these?" and shoved most of them into that single scene, so that they would be seen somewhere (so as not to humiliate the builders) but not up close (so as not to humiliate the photographers)...

To the best of my visual acuity after viewing this scene again, assuming they are both Starfleet ships, the lower left one is a Steamrunner and the upper one is an Akira. Yes, CGI models were used in this shot along with physical ones.
