1.) What is the source material for the USS Shepard as an Oberth Class starship?
2.) What is the source for the Excelsior Class USS Kongo NCC-42173?
Thank you.

I never bothered to document my sources when I was compiling my ship list. I have material all across the board, and to track those two down is gonna be a b**ch considering I don't even know which book(s) or magazine(s) to start looking in. I'll try, but it may be weeks -- it's not as if this is a major priority on my docket at the moment...

Well, anyway.
I am amending my list to include these two bits of information.
Thank you, Peregrinus.

I think the reason why some consider the Shepard a Oberth is that there was a non-canon Shepard around the same time as the movie which WAS an Oberth (had a registry too, but i forget it) so many just linked the two together. Also Allan Shepard was an astronaut, Grissom was an astronaut, and considering that up to that point there was only the Grissom, it wouldn't be such a stretch to consider another astronaut oberth.

The more that gets bandied about on this, the more I think I know why I can't remember a clear source -- it's possible this came from a couple of my conversations with Mike Okuda. I can't be entirely sure, but it feels right. I'll see if it's in e-mail (only some of which I saved, I admit), but it could also have been from a phone conversation. I'll put my noodle to work on it...
