I am starting to work on a model of the USS Princeton, so I needed some references. (Some of you may remember my New Orleans and Cheyenne ships.) I got all the pictures I could find on the internet, read Bernd's Wolf 359 page etc... But I needed a good top view that showed the layout of the windows and what you could see of the lifeboats. So after looking at the Fact Files pictures, I decided that they drew the shield grid lines wrong. The radial lines all originate from the center. Looking at the Ent-D you see that they don't. The ones on the port and starboard sides of the saucer all originate from one a point off center, (Maybe the foci of the ellipse?) where the center ones seem to just be spaced out nicely. And they probably need an inner ellipse like the Ent-D has to end the grid lines. But that's just a guess from me. So I took a couple pictures (namely this one and this one) and came up with this:

I reworked the grid lines and tried to get the windows in the right places. The slanted gray line up top is where the first picture cuts off, so I don't have any window pattern. The lifeboats are from me lowering the gamma down quite a bit. They are just educated guesses based on subtle color changes. The transporter emitters under the registry are also educated gusses. But the emitters make sense to me.

Anyway, I was wondering what you guys think. Comments, suggestions, gripes, complaints?

P.S. This is a scan of a partially re-worked diagram. I added the windows/lifeboats/emitters and fixed up the phasers with my pencil. It took lots and lots of erasing....

I think those transporter emitters under the registry are actually escape pods on the model.

The forward phaser strip is a bit too close to the rim, IMO.

We're paying attention to you we just don't have any suggestions because in my opinion you did a good enough job where you don't need any more suggestions.

Ok, just checking. I think the phaser strip should be back a little too, but I'll change that later. If anyone wants to incorporate this into the existing diagrams, go for it.

BTW, the model is coming along nicely and should be in one piece in a few weeks depending on how motivated I am.

Looks good to me. Just make sure the windows match up with the deck lines.

Just going by the diagram you gave and the two links... I don't know if you wanted us to concentrate on the grid lines you were talking about, but if you've moved on to talking about the rest of the ship, those Nacelles shouldn't go UNDER the saucer SHOULD THEY!?! They don't appear to on the Greg Jein pic.

No, I just wanted to show all the saucer. The nacelles should go on top. And it was mostly the grid lines, windows, lifeboats and such that I wanted you guys to look at. I just wanted to make my model as 'correct' as I could, and I figured that here would be the best place to get feedback before I get that far.

The lines at the top of the pic (left side of the disc) appear to be converging just inside the innermost ring, outside the bridge module. But the lines near the longitudinal midline are converging to a point further towards the center. I think all the lines should converge to the same point. If this hull has the same proportions as the EntD primary hull, can't you use just use the same convergence points?

That's just it though. The lines on the Ent-D work the same way. There are groups of lines that meet at a certain point. Here's a pic I made up to show. I kinda went off this to make my grid lines.

I guess I've never taken a close look at the lines on Enterprise D. That's pretty strange. Please ignore my ignorant comments. (I'll have to send an critical email to Andy Probert.)

D-S: Unless I'm mistaken, Fructose is building a physical model of the Niagra. Although there is a lack of a good 3D Niagra Model.

Hey Fructose1, I believe the row in front of the bridge are indeed lifeboat hatches. Also, is it just me, or do the engines seem modified as compared to normal Galaxy-type? They seem to be the same width and general shape, and the bussard collectors are the same, but they seem to be "shortened" versions somehow...compare the length to a normal Galaxy engine and I think you'll see what I mean...
