Can somebody please give me a quick summary of all the known Defiant studio/cgi models? (ie, who designed them, constructed or rendered them, where they were built, what production they were built for, etc...)?

Thanks,
-MMoM [Big Grin]

I can't remember all the details but I know of all the models.

1) Original 4ft miniature designed by Martin and Hutzel, built by Tony Meininger. First seen in "The Search (part I)".

2) VisionArt CGI, mostly for warp jump shots.

3) ILM CGI, for First Contact.

4) Digital Muse CGI, first used in "Sacrifice of Angels". I HATE this model with a vengeance.

5) CGI developed for Hutzel. First used in "The Changing Face of Evil".

Add to that the new CGI model done by one of Mojo's colleagues at Foundation Imaging for Mojo's new book.

Here are some more details -- I happen to have written a short survey of the official models a while ago.

I'm guessing it's because that Defiant model in "Sacrifice of Angels" is inaccurate. It was based off of the (also) inaccurate ERTL model. Some features, like the deflector nose, are too thin/long and the overall shape is off.

You read my mind, Ace. Furthermore, it really pisses me off that the least accurate CGI model is the one that's had the most exposure. For instance, I was less than impressed that Mojo used this model in both SOTL calendars and then Starship Spotter too.
