I'm posting this on behalf of Colin Lindsly who is currently locked out from Flare - not because of misbehavior (at least not that I knew of [Wink] ), but because of his ISP.

quote:

My questions relate to the fourth year of TNG and they are require screen caps. The questions are:
1. What details can we glimpse at of the U.S.S. Arcos before she explodes in "Legacy"?
2. Can we see a registry of the Nenebek in "Final Mission"?
3. Lastly, are we able now to see the registry on the Oberth Class starship, identified in StarTrek.Com as U.S.S. Cochrane, in "The Drumhead"?

I'll do some checking, but with the Arcos I can't help. Some time ago I set everything up to capture that ship but stupidly taped over the first couple of minutes, so I don't have access to it. The other stuff I can check. But Starship Millennium might be the best guy to ask as he's got the 4th season on DVD, and any captures would be far superior to VHS.

Hmm... haven't watched "Legacy" recently... did they show the Arcos? I don't remember... was it on a computer graphic? As far as the Nenebek, you'd have to tell me where to look. I haven't thought to freeze the scene with the Oberth from "The Drumhead"... but based on its DS9 appearance I'm guessing that it will be the 59318 Cochrane.

Give me a few days and I'll see what I can dig up. [Smile]

The Arcos was not shown except for a fraction of a second before the explosion engulfed her. But there *was* something in the middle of that explosion - a model of some sort. Was it a random piece of plastic, or something we could recognize? The DVD might tell.

Here's the Oberth first...

http://home.att.net/~starships/centaur/oberth.jpg

Seems I was wrong... it looks like four digits, with no 1s or 7s. 5230, perhaps? I've been playing with negatives and enhancements but haven't come to anything confirmed yet.

Now the Arcos...

http://home.att.net/~starships/centaur/arcos.jpg

Seems kind of indistinct. Reminds me vaguely of the Cardassian/Klingon freighter.

I don't see anything on the Nenebek... again, if someone thinks they saw a registry, just tell me where and I'll try and find it.

Colin e-mailed me a little while ago and told me where to look:

http://home.att.net/~starships/centaur/nenebek.jpg

If these characters are Arabic numerals (which they're probably not), it seems to me as if the first digit is a "2," the last, a "6," and the middle one some sort of merging of a "0" and a "6." I'm pretty sure this is supposed to represent alien writing though.

(BTW, Colin, Data's console only gave coordinates and speed info for the Nenebek, no discernible stuff about the ship itself, unfortunately.)

The Arcos actually looks a bit like the Constellation if you ask me, except the nacelles can't be seen.

In any case, it's still just a blob. Which makes me very, very happy.

I mean, it's too bad that we don't know what sort of piece of plastic was used to film the scene. I'd love to know details like that. But at least it's now confirmed that the Arcos CANNOT be identified with any of the known ship designs in practice. Which means we don't have to swallow our bile when it turns out that, for example, the alien- and antiquated-looking Merchantman is supposed to be the NCC-6000 -registered, Starfleet-operated Deneva class vessel. We can come up with a cool and consistent design for this two-man Starfleet/Federation TOS movie era freighter instead!

The Arcos now looks to me to be the same model as the Promellian battlecruiser/Klingon Noggerah ship/The Skreean Ship from "Sanctuary".

Let's do something that has a chance of success for a change: screencaps of the Arcos escape pod from multiple directions might reveal something new and interesting about the craft. And then there's that diagram of the underground tunnels to check out.

And, of course, if SS Millennium could provide us with tons and tons of sufficiently sharp and large images of Ishara before and especially after the clothes change, we might finally deduce the so far elusive reason for that change. And whether that catsuit counts as a Starfleet uniform (since she apparently got it from the ship's stores)...

About the Arcos: I honestly can't see anything at all, guys. How you get these ideas that it looks like a nacelle-less Constellation or a Promellian battlecruiser is beyond me. Before I saw this, I figured it might have been the terrorist scout ship/Lysian fighter, but now, the closest thing it looks like to me is a small white pigeon.

About the Nenebek's registry: I thought someone had said that it was NAR-2066? Well, I don't see any NAR, and the numbers, although looking similar to "2066", don't appear to be written in any type of registry format. They seem to just be spray-painted on the wall. I am therefore removing this registry from my shiplist.
