Can anyone help me out, I'm looking for the registry for the Ranger class scout USS Strider. I was in the FASA game suppliment "The Strider Incident' which I no longer own.
Thanks,
Todd

Well, if I use a previously used name for a model,
I try to work the previous registry number into the new one. The ship I'm going to name USS Strider is a Nova class ship, so I'll make the registry NCC-77141. [Smile]

You had to ask. Okay then.
The Ranger class entered service on Reference Stardate 2/1710 which in 'real' terms is slightly after TMP. You can see forward, dorsal and port views at http://www.shipschematics.net/startrek/images/federation/scout_ranger.jpg
Please note that those are NOT full size warp nacelles as the whole ship is only 87m long (w: 57m h: 21m). The crew complement was 77. The aforementioned FASA book gives deckplans of the three (or just three main?) decks in the saucer.

108 vessels were constructed. (As with most FASA class sizes this is larger than other sources would like). FASA assigned registry by type with 6000 to 8999 going to scouts. It seems likely, though it was never stated, that 7100 to 7207 were Ranger class scouts. Though as FASA registries often skipped numbers the upper number may be too low.

The USS Strider was assigned in the early-mid 2270s to Task Force 13 on the Klingon Border and was commanded by Captain Kristine Reardon. And the basic plot of the FASA scenario is that someone managed to order Captain Reardon into entering Klingon space and hence provoking a conflict. These events took place on Reference Stardate 2/1809 which is about a year and half after TMP or four years before TWoK (FASA dates in this period are hard to convert to real dates as five years FASA time are roughly 15 years real time).

Is that enough?

fascinating.

i disregard stuff like the 100+ vessels of each class, but info like that is awesome..

BTW those ships are the ones that i saw dozens of getting blown up on a page of Knutson art in the Tactical Combast Simulator manual.. that artwork was amazing!

Ooh... Can anyone get scans of these deck plans? [Smile]

And to add to it: The FASA Reco Manual lists a Ranger's weapons as four FH-7 phasers in two banks covering the forward arc, plus two FP-7 torpedo launchers mounted one fore, one aft. This is of course for the MK-III refit.

Whoops. Everything I wrote applies to the Mk II version. There were also Mk I and Mk III versions. The Mk I entered service in 2/1210 which is the last year of the five year mission and 102 were built. The Mk III version entered service in 2/2001 (either three years after TMP or two years before TWoK) and 54 were built. As the total number built was 159 there must have been some refitting between versions.

That full page artwork of them getting blown up only appears in later printings. In my copy that pages is actually full of Defense Station damage tables which are one big error - the correct tables fit entirely onto the previous page, hence the huge art piece in later print runs.

I'll do my best. It may take a while as the numbered key is in a very light grey which I'll probably need to touch up once I've scanned them.
