Found this on the TrekToday forums. Some interesting tidbits here:

quote:

Anyhow, as to Prometheus:

I named the sections Fwd Hull, Upper Warp Hull, and Lower Warp Hull; I don't know them by other labels. The UWH and LWH should have impulse nozzles at the trailing edges of their head areas. If not, then they use fractional warp values for sublight propulsion.

All three components should have dishes, though the ones for the Fwd Hull and UWH might be small.

I don't see these parts able to stay separated for too terribly long, no. Each can do some things well, other things not so well. Together they operate as well as a normal ship.

All three sections can fire torpedoes. The launchers for the UWH, for example, are hexagonal tubes for pop-up torps like cruise missile launchers on an Aegis.

Can't recall deck count. Maybe 13?

The Fwd Hull and UWH have shuttlebays. The LWH might have a small one buried in the aft warp undercut.

Rick

Having built amodel of the Prommie (the Starcrafts version made from the CGI schematics), I cant find any place the forward hull could have a shuttlebay (unless it's buried beneath armor on the dorsal side).

The torp launchers on the UWH look like standard launchers to me, that are flanking the small deflector. The FH could place a very small shuttlebay at the aft end of the bridge/nacelle superstructure, but it would have to be very small as the nacelle and its bay would be in the way. My guess would be it holds two shuttles at most. (It is possible that shuttlebay there could be larger and extend around the nacelle bay allowing more room for shuttles and shuttle operations). The CGI model does not show any shuttlebay for the LWH anywhere, including where Sternbach suggests it might be. However, we could place one there if the LWH needs one.

Does the MSD shed any light on that shuttlebay... I seem to remember a shuttles in strange locations on that MSD.

Quick, someone post the MSD and let's all see.

Also, the model for the Prometheus was a rush job, and very poorly done to boot, lacking the vast majority of the details that Sternbach designed into the ship.

Looking at the CGI model and the MSD, I can say the MSD ship outline doesn't completely match the coutours of the CGI. For example, the MSD doesn't show the superstructure as tall as it should be. Concerning the shuttlebay(s), the only shuttles that appear on the MSD correspond to the UWH's bay... and it's not on a even level with the doors. Also on the MSD, there are what appear to be deuterium tanks for the LWH's M/ARA in the place where Sternbach places a shuttlebay. And there are also what appear to be landing struts, though they are no depicted on the model.

Perhaps the FH's shuttlebay could be located in the undercut, where it's only accessible if it's separated? 'Twould be rather inconvenient, though.

I also have the Starcrafts model, and I agree concerning the torpedo launchers.

Sounds fair to me.

In the MSD I don't see a shuttle or a deck suited as shuttlebay in the forward hull.

Could the two warp hulls have impulse nozzles? If not, we would have to go with the fractional warp explanation, although it was said to be little efficient in the TNGTM.

Yes, each component has impulse engines. They almost all occupy the same area when connected.

There is still room available for a shuttlebay in the Forward Hull. Remember the MSD locates only rooms and components along the ship's centerline in most cases...maybe there are two smaller bays to either side of the centerline and that's why shuttles don't end up on the MSD.

I agree...someone should do a proper CGI model with the correct registry number (NCC-74913).
