I can't remember what sources have been quoted on how the ENT-era shielding works. This concept has been brought up before, but this is the first time I've seen this particular article.

Picard: Mr. Crusher, what's our maximum speed this week?
Wesley: [checking manual] Uh, 9.4, sir.
Picard: Very good. Take us to Warp 9.8 then.
Wesley: Aye, sir. Warp 9.2 it is.

Fortunately, Enterprise is now so obscure they manage to avoid referencing Star Trek like they always seem to in these articles. Create one atom of anti-matter (that exists for about a trillionth of a second)? Mention that Star Trek ships are powered by it. Manage to teleport one atom in an acceleretor? Mention transporters! Develop a new type of wireless Taser? Mention phasers!

A very effective defense that will help insure the next generation of AFVs are nearly immune to low-tech weapons insurgents accross the world use. The only real obstacle to light armor in next-generation light AFVs is the ability to withstand large brute-force slug projectile weapons.
I'm not exactly sure what this weapon has to do with polarized hull plating, though.

Did anyone else notice that that article was filed 2 years ago? Doesn't look like they are in any hurry to try to implement it.

Yeah, no one would research a tech with military applications and not tell us. [Wink]

One cannot just implement this system on any vehicle (in a cost-effective manner) because the system needs to be fully integrated into the armor. That is why it is only a possibility for future vehicles. This is normal. It usually takes a little while for stand-alone technologies such as this to be implemented.
