I AM OFFICIALLY ANNOUNCING MY ARRIVAL once again to the Flare forums... (which means I have been bugged to rejoin ya and I happened to remember my password) hehehe
I thought it'd be considerate to come bearing a gift, so here's my latest work.

The original concept is by a fellow with the handle "Sneaker98" over on the BC forums. ...for those of you without Bridge Commander on your hard drives (and I do not mean the stock version of the game, yecch), I highly recommend it.

Back on topic, I was asked to make this ship spaceworthy; in other words, good-looking while also able to be built in a 3-D program easily enough. This was being done as a favor to Sneaker98 by a chap named Steven Tuffnell. Steven offered to build the ASDB's Wambundu Class for BC if I was so kind as to work the Mariner over.

Which brings us to the present, work-in-progress!

Enough babbling, here's the dorsal view as well as an outdated ventral:

Here is the revised ventral view - note the Akira-inspired fairings flanking the deflector and torpedo turret. The ship is supposed to be circa 2370-80, it has yet to be nailed down.

...and finally, the preliminary orthographic views I drew up last night.

Pretty cool lookin' but it looks like someone squished the Chyenne.
I'd add a few unique features to this baby to make her truly unique. [Wink]

Wow. That looks like the four-nacelled I have been tryinmg to design in vain all the time. We should bring that up at the ASDB.

I really like the ventral saucer-config, that thing could do some decent damage.

hey, Jason!
A couple of questions: Do you mind if I build your Phoenix class-do you have schematics and dimensions?
Did you create the RENAISSANCE class? If not who did?

I really dig your stuff....and now that I look at the Mariner again I think it has more in common with the Zandura design than the Chyenne. [Wink]

Could you give me a link? I'm not sure which design you mean - you mean that ship from the RPG on my homepage? Looks like a modern Oberth, is that it?

Bernd, you wanna hit 'im with the rolled-up newspaper, or shall I? haha, The Ren. was designed and drawn by none other than Doktor Schneider, J.A.!

The possible Cheyenne similarities are unavoidable and hadn't occured to me before, though I will try to keep that in mind as I flesh her out. I can't remember what the Zandura is? Was that a semi-canon or dropped design?

Thanks, Bernd & Nim - but are you saying this could be a candidate for one of the old unresolved classes? Maybe Chimera? I'd have to make the phaser cannons a refit accessory, though, I'd wager. [Wink]

Here's what I was furnished with as a starting point:

...and this was one of my first takes - with re-sized engines, per Sneaker98, on top:

Yeah, I mean the Oberth update. I'd build that it you have the specs and dimensions.

Ah. I already built one and wanted to give some credit: Thanks "Doc Schneider". [Big Grin]

The zandura was a never realized Alex jager design for First Contact.
See it here: http://neutralzone.future.easyspace.com/

Specific link for the Zandura class is:

http://neutralzone.future.easyspace.com/Federation/StarFleet/Zandura.htm

That way you don't have to navigate thru that entire site just for that one design....

I think the Zandura is very ugly, I also think the Mariner is very beautiful.

Looking at your two dorsal view "takes", I would choose the upper one, the one with smaller nacelles.

One thing I would've loved with the Prometheus nacelle design was if the pylons folded like on an X-Wing, creating two big nacelle pairs.
They could fold during battle and general impulse drive (for sleeker shape) and fold out before warp jumps.

J.A. -
It's a Curie Class starship, designed and built for 3DS-Max by "Kenny_Z." Look for it online before you bother building a duplicate, perhaps? ^_^ At any rate, Ken is a nice chap who'd probably give you permission, just find his e-mail if you still want to make your own.

Griff -
Thanks for the direct link, Neutral Zone took a while to load on my machine for some reason. ...now if only I saw your post *before* I went to look for the Zandura... lol

Nim -
I dunno, I like the Zandura too, but it seems a bit outlandish for the era, especially with those nacelles. Alex Jaegar may have been a genius at re-interpreting starship design and at creating 3-D models (he is on the ILM staff), however his 4 ships for First Contact always seemed "rushed" to me. Like they're "all there" obviously since they are in 3-D, but you can't directly compare his designs with Andy Probert's or Rick Sternbach's. They each put a lot more planning into their designs and it shows.

Then again, who knows if Jaegar's ships were ever intended to be fleshed-out - and put under the "trekker microscope" as they have been.

That said, I have some pretty freaky designs of my own. ^_^ Now if only I could get paid to make them for a show...
