If someone has a render of a refitted connie, could they add phaser strips to it and post a picture of it? I have this crazy idea for the fanfic I'm writing, where the Connies were never decommissioned in the 2290s and instead remained in service well into the 2300s. The Connies would've recieved minor refits over the years, then would get a big refit when phaser strips were developed. I need a picture of what one would look like with them though, to see if they'd look any good.

Not such a crazy idea; they'd have to test a prototype of the design somewhere. I did a drawing a few years ago where I postulated them doing tests on the proposed Reigate class from SOSF. Basically just a Connie with upgraded engines and weapons; what I did was to use the outside halves of each phaser mount on the saucer as the endpoints for a phaser strip arc. Nothing fancy, just something usable for a weapons test.

Unfortunately, a) I drew it in 1:800 scale on 14 x 22-inch posterboard, and b) I don't have a scanner. I'll see if I can find someone I know with a scanner and photocopy the old girl. I plan on redoing her soon anyway.

Well, I think that judging from the Connie wreckage we saw at Wolf 359 it is pretty safe to assume that they weren't decomissioned in the 2290s [Smile]

And, judging from all that Mirandas and Excelsiors Starfleet couldn't be bothered to upgrade their phaser arrays.

But, I'm curious to see how it would look like too [Smile]

The strips on the top of the nacelles probably wouldn't work. That's not a flat surface up there. It's stair-stepped.

I'd go with three short, curved Ambassador phaser strips from the rear of the Amby's saucer.
Place them where the Connie's phaser mounts already are (to minimize re-routing all those EPS lines) and Viola!
A hideous new refit for a ship that's FAR past it's prime already.
As long as you're upgrading the weaponry, Try flattening out the secondary hull's dorsal side and give her nacelle pylons from an Excelsior.
I've always hated the too-thin pylon connections to the secondary hull: they just scream "Shoot HERE!!!")

The reason why Starfleet hadn't retired the Connies in my story is because they needed them. Retiring them would've left a vacuum in their fleets.

Jason - it's all been done. SOMEWHERE on shipschematics.net there're at least a few ugly bashes of just that.

In any case, we've seen many Mirandas and Excelsiors with upgraded (sic) phasers firing from normal twin ball mounts...

I've got a couple of pictures of an updated Connie that I got from one Elim_Garak at some point or another w/ "other elements by Dennis Russell Bailey." You can't really see phaser strips but overall it is sort of TNG-ish.

If I can successful negotiate that which is Flare upload I will let you know.

The first shot the Lakota got off at the Defiant, that was from a ventral saucer strip, wasn't it?
I seem to remember those telltale orbs rushing along the strip to meet and form a beam.

May have been animated that way, but other than the markings, the Lakota was physically identical to the Enterprise-B and it had movie-era phaser banks.

Latest version. As you can see, Connies were refitted with phaser strips and Ambassador nacelles. Connies were largely decommsioned by the 2360 or 70s though.
