I'm back at work on my long-delayed transport and cargo ship project. I need some suggestions for a space-going version of Air France, but unfortunately no absolutely no French. I'd appreciate any suggestions. Please label any joke suggestions as such!

Thanks in advance.

J'suis confus...

What is it you're after? A French name for a French-ish carrier, which does not use French at all? Toughie...

If so, I guess you could go with any number of proper nouns. Arc de Triomphe Air, Louvre Luggers, etc. France's main port cities include Marseille, Sete, Bayonne...

No, Masao spelled 'know' as 'no' - as in he "knows no French" so needs help devising a French name.

Well, the obvious would be "Espace France", but I'm not sure they would choose that... How about "Etoile France" ("Star France")? Not sure about the accents, though. Or whether they would rather use the plural instead of the singular form, either.
Maybe "AstroFrance" would be the best choice...

I guess "Space France" or "Aerospace France" would be too obvious?

Ahh, okay.

The French word for areospace is "Aerospatial". That's way too cool a word NOT to use. [Smile]

Sorry for the bad spelling in the initial request; I'm trying to go to go completely phonetic!

Aerospatiale is a cool name, but is already used as the name of a French aerospace company and suggests airborne versus only spaceborne vehicles.

I think we can give the lad from Japan a break with English problems, since Jason has spoken it all his life and still struggles with basic concepts like spelling, grammar, spelling, and spelling.

Yes, you're despicable, and... and picable... and... and you're definitely, definitely despicable. How a person can get so despicable in one lifetime is beyond me. It isn't as though I haven't met a lot of people. Goodness knows it isn't that. It isn't just that... it isn't... it's... it's despicable.

Here's a list of French shipping companies, which may help.

BTW, Masao, I've just noticed that your Queen Mary 6 is breaking the law; it's illegal for any ship not belonging to the RN to fly the Union Jack. She should be carrying the Red Ensign.

I suspect that the UK no longer exists as an independent political entity. My idea is that companies based in what used to be territories of the old nation-states continue to use the flags for reasons of nostalgia/self-identification.

Thanks for the link.

But we still invaided France in WW3, which is why all the Frenchmen in the future have English accents.

You don't scare me, bub. I am a high school graduate (well, junior high) and the spawn of nonconsanguineous parents. In the words of Kirsten Dunst and my nation's misguided C-in-C, "Bring it on!"
