OK, I was thinking lately (yep, sometimes I do that), and something came to my mind...

Maybe some of you read a story posted on alt.startrek.creative all those years ago (in early 1996 or late 1995) before Star Trek: First Contact was released... it was titled "Star Trek 8: The Rescue of Kirk" (hence the title for this thread - oh, the original title had "8" instead of "VIII" for reasons of space), written by Yours Truly...

So, I've been thinking of maybe revising the story (as there were a few errors which I somehow overlooked at the time of writing it, even though in my mind I had taken note of the right version) and publishing it here for your viewing tortu-, er, pleasure...

So, I'm expecting your opinions before I go on with this idea. If there isn't much opposition, well, I'll go ahead and carry out my threat.

Well, Shatner already "wrote" a few books dealing with that idea.

Somehow, despite their fanboy stupidity, they seem to sell.

Fortunately, they are not only non-canon, but not considered part of Pocket's trek Universe at all.

The plot to Shatner's books read as a parody.

And easy on the eyes. Or so I'm told by others.

As for the topic, I say go for. Just be aware that the line between good parody and bad parody is very, very fuzzy. Like month-old meatloaf that's been sitting in my fridge and is beginning to develop sentience.

I can't. The meatloaf/green fuzz hybrid has spread to the vegetable drawer and mobilized the potatoes and carrots against me. I frickkin' hate carrots, too!

Well, you can still find the old version doung a search on Google Groups... so you know what to expect (the revisions won't be too extense).

Hmmm... I don't think people found it particularly bad back then.
