Well, has anyone read The Dosadi Experiment, by Frank Herbert? If not, this is destined to be a rather short thread.

I managed to come across a few now out of print Herbert books at the college library, and have been trying to find time to read all of them.

As for the book, I liked it. The ending threw me for a few loops, and I'm still not sure whether I missed some crucial hint earlier in the story.

read this many years ago, still recall some of the details.

You know this was a sequel to another (I believe inferior) work set in the same multi-species universe called "Whipping Star?"

Yes. Unfortunately, I've been unable to find a copy. From the first chapter or so of "Dosadi", it presumably dealt with the mysterious Caleban.

At any rate, while I have your ear, or eye rather, might I inquire as to your recollection of the ending? (I'm going to go into spoilers here people.)

That is, all of a sudden the true purpose of the experiment was to create a practical form of immortality via body-swapping? Did I miss something earlier in the book, or what?
