I played the demo three years ago, and since I somehow missed the tutorial/training level, I didn't understand shit, got killed immediately and promptly decided this game was boring.

Yesterday I DID try the tutorial, DID get the proverbial "powerup" etc etc.
I'm now thinking of buying it.
So, I ask you other Deus Ex-enthusiasts, what are the favourite gameplay styles of your choice, for Deus Ex?

See, I've played Diablo II, I don't want to find, yet again, that I've "wasted" skillpoints on the wrong things, things I won't use...

So, what are you?
Hacker?
Stealthy sneaker?
Or combat jock?

Also, if you could choose one favorite weapon, not just based on damage and cost but how she looks and how she feels, what would that be?

PS: The work on the sequel looks pretty darn good so far.

Hacker or/and Sneaker, definetly. This not only allows you to eliminate enemies in a 'safer' way or hack into otherwise unaccesible places, it will allow you stun enemies and get valuable equipment from them (some enemies explode when killed). You can also lay traps for your enemies, especially that semi-invincible walkers (just get some TNT crate, drop it near the patrol route, and blow it up with pistol in aprioprate moment [Smile] ).

So, my favourite weapon was stealth pistol beacuse of the stylish design [Wink] . I was able to use heavier weapons, too - even that I had penalties in use those weapons (rocket launcher, for example) mostly negated that disadvantages.

I have a confession to make.

I, gamer supreme, am in torturous agony.

For I, Master of all games, skipped Deus Ex.

This was an egregious mistake of epic proportions.

I seek absolution for my irreparable oversight.

What must I do, Oracle of Electronic Entertainment?

*The great and holy Oracle of Electronic Entertainment says

Get the game and play it! [Big Grin] *

It's an awesome game. especially when you get good mods like silent run or something. hackin is fun, can never run out of cash if you've got good hacking skills. Very good game. Deus Ex 2 is due out sometime soon I believe. I haven't checked up in a while. Anybody else know?

Deus Ex? My God! [Eek!] I haven't played that in over 6 months since I moved house and lost the CD (found it only last week - phew!)

Wicked game! While most people rant and rave about the graphics (which are pretty good), it's the gameplay and story that is so damned good and enticing.

I actually tried following the stealth route and the kick ass route. The stealth one is better more often than not, but sometimes you come across an opponent that requires a real punch to take out. It took a while but I can sneak around pretty much anywhere with/without the silent run (I just take my time crawling). This is an excellent game that I just play and play, can't get enough.

As for Deus Ex II: Invisible War - last I heard it was due to be released in summer of 2003, but according to what PC Gamer says I'd expect it to be close to Christmas 2003 if not in early 2004.

If anyone hears of a demo being released with a PC games magazine -

LET ME KNOW PLEASE!!!

I'm waiting for Master of Orion III - due to be released in May! I can't wait!

Invisible War will be done when it is done.

Warren Spector is perhaps the single best human on the planet.

How I love him so.

"Why should you play Deus Ex?"

Just finished the demo. One of the most irritating discoveries in these games is completing all objectives and THEN
noticing two big areas you didn't visit and can't reach now. All those gadgets calling out for you in longing... *beeeeeeep...*

Also, this game has nothing if not attention to details. First time a computer-game boss ever berates me for visiting the women's bathroom and making the bureau look bad.
I usually get away with it.

I believe I will get this game, looking forward to installing all those augmentations on my frail body.
Hope they add strangling-wire or choke-hold in the next installment. Oh dear, I'm terrible.

Yes, that can happen. What I did, after playing the game numerous times and following stealth/kick-ass routes, was to download a walkthrough and the cheats. I then used the cheats simply to find the bits that I'd missed (without getting killed) and then tried to get to them as a mere mortal. 8 times out of 10 I got them all, the remaining 2 times was because they simply weren't needed - I could last until the next stage and supply of ammmo/medikits.

HEHE! [Smile] Yes that was funny. It was most certainly the last thing that I had expected.

Good for you! (That you'll get it). No you're not terrible, just enthusiastic, in a health way. [Wink]

I was going by the date provided to me by Amazon.co.uk. January issue of PC Gamer states Spring 2003 - it just depends which source you use. In either case, I'll probably wait until it's at about 20-25, 45 is just too much, for any game! I mean, once you've played it a couple of times, it just sits on your shelf or in a box and gathers dust . . . not worth 45, more like 20 or if possible, wait until it comes out in the Budget range - 10 - yeah!!!

akb1979 most definitely said: "you're not terrible, just enthusiastic, in a health way. [Wink] "

Well yes, in a healthy way for all but the non-suspecting little enemies!

The SFX is unusually good.
I would've liked to have been in the studio when they recorded the sound of soldier inhaling pepper spray.

The game costs 145 Kr (17 bucks) in my local store, I think it's worth it.

Besides, I mean, what sick individual adds a cattle prod AND a crowbar to a otherwise respectable Sci-Fi Roleplaying-Game????

JC: "Knock-knock!!"
Brown Pyjamas Guard: "Hmm?"
*BZZT!*
*Donngg!!*

JC: "Haha!! Now who's going to the weapons cache??"

It wasn't that bad, was it? [Confused]

Crowbar = crack skull's open so that you can eat their brains or let the rats eat them! HEHE! [Razz] [Eek!]
Cattle prod = fry to f***er's balls! HEHE! [Razz] [Eek!]

Bought it now, the GOTY-edition, the latest version so I didn't have to patch it or anything.

I even did the tutorial, although I'd done it in the demo, and wouldn't you know it? When in the last room of the tutorial,
where holograms of enemies and bots stand on piedestals, I happen to find a loose brick in the left wall. I push it, the wall opened.

I knew there was a reason I should do the tutorial over again, if not what it might be!

But it seems, after having practised on the demo, I'm now more sneaky than ever.
In fact, I think I'm a bit too sneaky, I have like 6-7 lockpicks,
multitools and energy cells each at any given moment.
I'm so greedy to get them so they kind of lose that savoured feeling, when you find something you really need.

I shall have to get myself in more jams, I'm playing on "Hard" already.

Well, I'll keep ya posted.

akb: it's the 25th of this month, the date's been officially confirmed by Quicksilver -- don't ever trust sleazy magazines. [Razz]

And now, to wet thine appetite, I present thee with four suckulent, juicy, drippy reviews:

http://www.orionsector.com/pages/etc/osreview.shtml

http://www.ugo.com/channels/games/features/moo3/review.asp

http://www.activereviews.com/modules.php?name=Reviews&rop=showcontent&id=124

http://apolyton.net/moo3/preview/part1_players.php

I'm sold. If MoO3 is even HALF as addictive as its predecessor (seriously, MoO2's replayability is unrivaled by any other strategy game, including Civilization, which I haven't grown tired of in a decade), it'll be well worth those 45 pounds.

A not altogether pleasant side-effect, but, aye. Also: why I am hesitant to pick up Deus Ex.
