At the risk of being carried out of town, onna rail, O Brother Where Art Thou style...

I'm thinking about creating a new sci-fi RPG story and wanted to get some kibitzing first.

My setting is 2050s, with a Moon colony and several minor bases on Mars, Jupiter, and a couple orbital stations. The characters will be the crew of an Earth/Moon shuttle with clean, efficient fusion engines (to avoid huge boosters to get off Earth). The story starts with the shuttle just laving orbit, for the Moon, when they hear some panicked radio traffic and are passed by an asteroid that nobody noticed comming. In short, the Earth gets knocked back to the Ice Age and feeling a little like like Space: 1999, the Moon Colony is suddenly the lifeboat of Humanity. The characters have one of only 2 space ships that can really go anywhere and become freelancers holding the colonies and bases together. I can also use lots of post holocaust stories with desperate survivors wanting to get off the planet, and having to go find needed resources on Earth. The polotics of who owns what, would only add to the fun.

Sounds like it could be good. After the devastation of the asteroid impact, the Earth would basically be a whole new planet to explore. Weird things may happen to the life that survives there.... who knows.

The freelancing thing sounds a little like Firefly. But I don't know that much about that show.

I'd come up with a more rounded storyline before jumping right into details, though.
