Wow. Awesome episode. Bloody cliffhanger! What did everyone think?

I might be wrong but there MIGHT BE a small reference to Rose in this episode and possibly "Bad Wolf"!! [Big Grin]

Tell me what you think it might be. [Smile]

Screw it - I wasn't the only one who thought that it was a Rose reference! Someone has saved me the trouble of capping and uploading an example: http://www.ukscience.org/test/wolfrose.jpg

I'm pretty sure that's Rose... and Bad Wolf below it.

I thought the same thing, but then I thought "When did Rose ever wear glasses?".

Call me crazy, but I think River Song is Captain Jack. The sonic screwdriver, the squareness gun, not having met Donna, able to send psychic paper texts, living in the 51st century, been to the end of the universe with The Doctor, has a serious crush on him...it seams to stack up.
Yes, ok, she's a woman, but allot can change in 3000 years.

In fact assuming he doesn't make a return trip to the end of the universe we can narrow the list down to Martha (unlikely), Chantho (less likely), Captain Jack (possible), and the Master...creepy but possible given that bit with his wife & the ring...but again, creepy.

I don't think they are glasses - I just think it is how the artist has chosen to make it look like a child has painted it. It's just how they have painted the eyes. The colour is pink. The shirt on the other hand in the drawing matches what Rose has been wearing in her appearances and in the second half of season 4 trailer.

They could just be pink circles around the eyes, though it really looks like there's a bit connecting them across the nose, too.

You're really discussing the logic behind what's supposed to be a child's painting? Don't any of you have kids?

Um... Not so much the "logic" as the contents, I think. And it's not a child's painting. It's a prop. Are you suggesting that they said "Well, we've got this painting of Rose to slip into the background, but what can we do to make it really clear that it was drawn by a child? Oh, I know! Put glasses on her. Because kids are stupid like that."?

Sure, exactly...OR they had a child paint it for them? It's much easier than painting like a child and I imagine these people have kids.

Was I the only one to find the Vashta Nerada vastly underwhelming as monsters of the week?

Don't get me wrong, it was a good idea to use the old "fear of the dark" motif and the "creatures" themselves were cleverly executed (getting by with invisible monsters in a time where modern audience tastes are dominated by heavy use of CGI) but I didn't think they were scary at all. After RTD claiming that "Silence in the library" was scarier than last year's "Blink" I was expecting something...well, a bit more frightening.

I agree that it was an excellent episode overall, but I think that has more to do with the River Song/Doctor angle and the hints that Donna has a sticky end coming her way. For my money, my bet is on River being a humanoid form of the TARDIS. Not sure why, just a hunch.

The monster this week was pretty effective. I like how immediate and final its killing process was. You could see the zombie spacesuit coming a mile away (as soon as you see the mental echo gadget, really) but it was still fun.

Who's River Song? Well, we are rumored that the season finale deals with an alternate future of some sort - perhaps River comes from there. Obviously, in THAT future "Firefly" wasn't as popular as it is here. I dont' see how she can be eventually seen as the Doctor's companion in the regular series, or how we will see her sprinkled throughout the remainder of Tennant's tenure as the Doctor.

It's also suggested that the Tenth Doctor will last a very long time in River's future, as she has a large book on him, and that he looks "early on" to her. Who knows? But I'll be looking to find out. [Smile]

Hey, you know what Doctor Who news is GENUINELY wierd?

David Tennant is now dating Georgia Moffett.

The Doctor is LITERALLY dating the Doctor's daughter.

Think on THAT for a while!

The monster was effective enough insofar as it presented the characters with a threat to react to, but I still think they're just a bit bland. Certainly not scary, which is what I think is behind much of my disappointment with them. I was expecting something with a bit more of a "behind the sofa" factor.

I think River could be factored in easily enough as a future companion - just one we never see on screen. The Doctor has travelled alone plenty of times, and we don't know how many adventures he has had in the gaps between companions (or, indeed, if there were other companions with him during those times). I think there is enough "wiggle room" with a time machine that River could pop up occasionally without causing too much of a headache.

Much like yourself I am looking forward to finding out though. Not much more of the new series to go! [Smile]

I think the girl is the library computer, which sealed itself off when it watched all the people on the planet die horribly. The James Bond guy is a part of the living computer's mind, trying to keep it sane and snap her out of her regression.

But that's just me. [Smile]
