Anyone have any info on when the Ewok movies took place with relation to Return of the Jedi?
I don't remember the movies all that well, though I think I still have them on tape somwhere. Were they ever released in the theaters? Did Lucas have anything to do with making them? Were they billed as being part of the Star Wars universe?

I was just thinking about this recently and it's weird to think that while the events of Return were playing out, there were all these other creatures on Endor doing stuff, possibly planning something with regards to the Death Star. I doubt there was any alliance with the Emperor or anything since the bad guys seemed pretty primative.

Any info would be cool.

They probably took place thousands of years before RotJ, since the Ewok movies showed the forest moon orbiting a gas giant, which was missing by the time the Death Star was being constructed there.

I think they were Disney productions, but I could be wrong.

Yes, details:

The ewok movies are considered non-canonical, or they never happened in the SW/EU Universe (EU is Extended Universe, the books which are up in the air for actual canon).
I think GL was embarrassed by them and pretended they never existed.
AFAIK, they occured centuries ago before TPM even occured.

Yes, but Wicket was in the movies. I know we don't know how long Ewoks live, but centuries seems a little long for teddy bears.

Actually, I have heard from numerous sources that George Lucas approves everything that gets the Star Wars label attached to it. I have little doubt that he approved the Ewok movie storyline for congruency with the Star Wars universe. It should also be said that Lucas approves the stories for the books as well. They are almost (if not equally) as canon as the movies: notice that the Encyclopedia contains as many (maybe more) entries for the novels than for the movies themselves.

Aban: That could be an ancestor, or they might be indeed long-lived.

David: Lucas approves little, if anything. He has said so himself. I'll try to find the exact quotations later if you want, but NOTHING outside of the movies and derivative words (radio plays etc.) is canon.

According to starwars.com somewhere, the only thing canon is the Movies. Period. The books/comics/EU(as someone put it) are official, but not canon.

I had an argument with Frank on this before... He actually turned out correct(for once )

Tell you what. I'll figure out a timeline for the Ewok films if you do one for the Christmas special, 'kay?

I've never seen the Christmas special but I was under the impression that it took place between Eps 4 and 5. Luke still still has his white linen Tatooine outfit and a saber that (barely) resembles the one he uses in ANH and ESB. The Special was aired right after Star Wars was in the theaters, right?

Frank: Yes, please find those quotes. My best friend has insisted for decades that Lucas has his hands on everything. I'd love to know what actually happens if you can find out. Thanks.

Lucas is notorious for his lack of approving nearly anything. He hands it down to underlings.

I am sure there are some quotes to confirm this however.

Tis true, TLE... Lucasfilm is what gives writers guidelines for their stories...mostly to keep in check facts and prevent major conflicts and such...

However, I think I remember reading that Lucas gave guidelines to Lucasfilm to give to writers for the direction of the newer novels, of where the SW universe would be headed to. I think Timothy Zahn's newer books, "Spectre of the Past" and "Vision of the Future" as well as "Vector Prime"(author escapes me ATM) show this...

I can't seem to find the quotation, but, when asked about the novels etc., Lucas said something along the lines of, "I let the licensing department use their judgement. That's not really a part of my empire I'm in contact with."

"His Empire", eh? I think little Beardy's a little too high up on his throne. Sure, they're good movies, and all, but they don't hold anything to the likes of Pauly Shore and 'Encino Man'
