Since shortly my move of university will thrust me into a new social group I will once more face the ardous task of identifying all the Trekkies among them. (There being far fewer true believers in the UK than the USA!) So I seek some info from all of you:

How many of you have successfully "converted" someone to the an appreciation of the Joy of Trek?
By this even a progression from "I think it's sad" to "Well, it's actually all right if you watch it" counts as a success.

(To my shame I have a running total of zero. I am however trying my damnest to get a DS9 fan to warm to the latest Voyagers!)

Well, I suppose my little brother got into it because I was always watching it. I knew he had been successfully assimilated when we were watching a scene involving a possible warp-core breach and he asked "why don't they just eject the core?" I was so PROUD. . . 8)

Alas, my count is also zero. But a couple of my nephews are fans at least. If Voyager was on at a decent time here, I think they would watch. Midnight Sunday hurts ratings in this area, though I know a few who tape it.

Trek fans are a rare breed up here in my area... The Trek Conventions are also few and far between here...

I know a lot of people around here are either fans or watch the show (mostly Voyager) casually. Never "converted" anyone, though.

I know of, oh, about two;
One always liked it, the other mentioned it to me during our first conversation -- pissed, on our way from a nightclub with about six others, he mentions the 'Call to Arms' cliffhanger -- I had to sit down.

Oh, one more: he's recently warmed to the Voyager eps just finished on Sky, now I've to introduce him to the joy that is Final Season DS9.

Other than that, another classmate that loved TOS.

How did you manage that?!

One complete conversion...

From, "Tom, Star Trek Sucks". (I kid you not, that was an actual quote.)

...to, "Did you catch the last DS9?"

"Well, I guess we're an Ovaltine family."
"MORE OVALTINE PLEASE!"

*rant*
My Bio teacher likes Trek, talks about it in class all the time. Maybe I should ask him to join the board?

No, haven't converted anyone.

Elim: My brother is more interested in photon torpedoes and phasers ripping ships apart rather than what he calls "melodramatic Crap". He was VERY dissappointed by SofA for some reason, saying there wasn't enough ships blowing up or something. He also doesn't like to watch the same episode twice, something which I usually do. And thirdly, four words: My Anti Trek Mom.
