Just a general question. What's the difference btwn an EP and a Single. and what do LP/EP stand for? been bugging me for a while

Well, I believe "LP" is "Long Playing".
The difference between EPs and singles...? Well, I guess EPs are longer. As for their purpose... I think singles are usually intended to introduce a new song before it comes out on an LP. An EP is more like a mini-album. Not long enough to be a real LP, but it's still standalone. Not just a preview of an upcoming album.

The only difference between EP and single is a semantic one, really. "Back to Skull" is a TMBG EP, for instance, which contains a single from the album John Henry plus three other songs, plus a remix of the single.

Yeah, five tracks, I think.
Anyway, I think the breakdown is sometimes used to describe the difference between a single that only has one song (and perhaps a remix or two of that song) from one that has a handful of songs.

A single would traditionally have the main track, plus a B-side (unless it was a double A-side; one example, I think Prince actually did "1999" and "Little Red Corvette" as a double A-side in this country). An EP would have about 4 songs, all given equal prominence - so the EP might have a title that was unrelated to any of the actual tracks on it.
