This is the kitten my girlfriend gave me. Her name is Dizzy, and, well, she's adorable. 8)

Does she live up to the name?

Posted by MIB (Member # 426) on :

Awwwwww. She is very cute. I have a cat too. Her name is Nora. She's very cute in that slash-your-throat tear-the-meat-off-your-bones kind of way.

Tahna: yes, and then some. 8)

More pics to come - we did go slightly mad with the camera - including one which should show quite how teeny she actually is.

Another discussion dedicated to cats - YAY!
Awww, Dizzy looks so cute - what was she staring at by the way?

Can you tell I like cats? Well, until they meow constantly for food when there is food already in the bowl and when they upchuck just after scoffing the lot! Cats . . . gotta love 'em!

What a little cutie pie!
Dizzy, huh? Does she walk into things or are you a fan of Dina Meyer?

They say females have got more attitude and shorter fuse than males. ( )
I've only had my Theo and he's a real cuddler, but loves to play when you get home from work. Yep, you only get to see two eartips before suddenly something sits on your chest and claims "victory".

Have you had a cat before, Lee? If not, you'll find out soon enough why they sometimes run sideways towards you. Has she done that yet?

And don't keep any plastic bags out in the open. My little guy keeps the world record of 00:10 secs before getting stuck in one of the loops/handles of a plastic bag. They're smart, but not that smart...

Aw, look at the cute widdle kitty!

Seriously though, I love cats. It just that when kittens grow up, a lot of their traits become less cute and more frustrating. For instance, purposely throwing huge amounts of kitty litter out of the litter box. As a kitten, it was cute. As a cat, it's less cute.

Right now, I have the caregiver to two cats. One is a stray we adopted. She's black and white and very skittish. She also has a mean streak to her. My friend Allison named her Yellow for some odd reason (yep, I had the cat for three months before I named her). Recently, we moved our cat Smokey indoors. She's about 15 years old now, and is almost completely blind. She can see shadows and movement, but not much else. She's adopted my bedroom as her domain. Yellow doesn't like that. The hijinks ensue.

I have 2 cats. I like cats a lot, they just seem to have more personality than dogs. Speaking of which, I've been meaning to see Cats & Dogs. Anyone see that movie?

Considering that the base board is probably 3-1/2" tall it is a wee little thing....

Darn. I was going to say that. I have no cat experience. But I have ferret experience, and I have been told ferrets are much like cats.

I haven't seen "Cats & Dogs", but my Fundementals in W. Fiction teacher did, and he loved it, so I'm planning on seeing it (albeit, after the video/DVD release).

Hey, that's my cousin's nickname. She's psycho too.

Posted by Vogon Poet (Member # 393) on :

It is a high baseboard, she's probably about 8 inches tall. I'm not sure what she's looking at in that shot, but it's probably a cork that she loves wrestling with. 8)

Charles and I went to see Cats&Dogs this weekend.

The movie ROCKS. It was hilarious. We were laughing all the way through. (except for one cry-y part, that I cried at, and Charles of course didn't, which soon ended and was replaced by more laughter)

You're gonna love it. I won't tell you what it's about, but if you like cats and dogs, you'll love it.

And Lee: "Awwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww". Charles showed me the URL yesterday, and I of course started in on him with the "I want a kitten" comment. (something i've been saying for a little over a year, I think). We're waiting until I move in here for good before we get one though.

Er. It is my suggestion that you neuter her, though. It makes female cats more friendly, AND.... well, when she goes into heat, your rug won't get messed up.

Posted by Tahna Los (Member # 33) on :

Speaking of Cats and Dogs, is it me or are Cats portrayed to be the really bad guys and the Dogs as the really good guys?

Because I too am a Cat lover, and seeing that cats are the bad guys doesn't do to well for ..... you get the message.

Posted by Hobbes (Member # 138) on :

I think that the cats would be better as the bad guys...something about cats wanting to rule the world is funny.

As far as neutering, it should be done, I have a cat that ended up getting an infection because she wasn't neutered.

Posted by TSN (Member # 31) on :

Well, that's a bit like saying you should cut off your cat's limbs because you once had a cat who got an infection on its foot. :-)

Posted by Jubilicious (Member # 99) on :

Er... well, they are. But they're hilariously portrayed, and veyr true-to-life, in my opinion.

I'm a cat AND dog lover.... so I guess I didn't care who was good and who was bad. It was everything else, not the actual plot, that made the movie worthwhile.

Just go, Tahna. It's totally worth it, believe me.

Posted by Vogon Poet (Member # 393) on :

Current plan is to let her have one litter - hell, she is a pedigree, and is really just borrowing those genes! - and then have her spayed. This way we can sell the kittens and probably make a profit.

Posted by Tahna Los (Member # 33) on :

oh pleez, don't think of it as a profit.

And be sure to keep them up to around 10 weeks. Fun to watch them growing up.

Posted by Jeff The Card (Member # 411) on :

Don't sell those cats ...

I got mine by adopting them from the HSBC. At the moment, they're curled up in my laundry hamper licking each other.

They're such fuzzballs.

Posted by Vogon Poet (Member # 393) on :

I know. At this stage it's more like keeping our options open. I suspect we'll be unable to bear to part with them. 8)

Posted by Dani (Member # 57) on :

Awwww, she's adorable. I tried the cat thing when I moved into my condo (because my dad didn't think ferret + new condo was a good thing), but it didn't go so well. I need to get Basil back from my mom, where he's been living for the past 6 months or so...I miss him.

Posted by Jubilicious (Member # 99) on :

That's a great idea, Lee. Just make sure you keep some rug cleaner/stain remover around then.

And kittens are such fuzzballs. I wouldn't bear to part with them either. Actually, any animal when it's young is cute. My dog had a litter of 9 puppies once (yes, _9_ puppies), and they were the most adorable things in the world! But of course no-one keeps 9 puppies. So we had to give them up.

The plus side was that I was suddenly the most popular kid in the neighborhood. Guys were standing in line to see me, and of course, my puppies.

Platypii look like they are babies their whole lives. Small and fuzzy, I never thought they'd be so cute until I saw them on TV. I doubt they could be succesfully domesticated, though.

I had a movie clip lying around and thought it prudent to put it here. It's just 1.3 mb, so it should be allright. The cat looks like Dizzy, too.

According to the vet, the infection was caused because she was not neutered.

A couple days ago my mom found a black kitten stray. We haven't decided what to do with it yet, take it to a shelter or keep it.

Posted by TSN (Member # 31) on :

A cat can't get an infection just because its reproductive system is intact. If that were the case, every cat that wasn't neutered would get the same infection. Obviously, the infection was caused by something else. If it was an infection in part of the reproductive system, then, yes, it could have been prevented by neutering. But that doesn't mean non-neutering will guarantee the infection to happen.

The strange thing is, she doesn't meow yet. She opens her mouth, goes through the motions, but nothing comes out. We know she can make noise because we heard her in the car on the way home. She growls at Frazzle (Kate's cat) and squeaks when he gets to rough in playing with her. Last night we came up with the theory she was deaf, but it looks like she might just have been ignoring us. . . pestiferous pussycat!

I don't care if she is deaf or mute, we still love her; the problem is, we'll never be able to let her out as a car will have her in 10 seconds flat.

Oh, well. More photos on the way soon. 8)

Posted by Nimrod (Member # 205) on :

I think that's a smart move. I take my cat out for walks every now and then, especially when we go out to the house in the country. But he is essentially an indoors cat.
If you only have one cat it will bond more with you than if you have two, who hang out with eachother much more. And if it's neutered it will both live longer and feel better during "spring time".

Of course, sometimes I also feel it would've been nice if my cat'd had the opportunity to have some kittens of his own...

My Theo is a very talkative cat, especially when trying to trick me into chasing him.
I don't know what it's called, but he often meows with his mouth closed, like when I surprise him with a pat when he's looking the other way, and it sounds like he uses vibrato in some way.

David Weber uses the expression "to bleek" often in his books, but I don't know exactly what it means...

Oh my... That's the cutest thing I've seen in ages. I thought my new kitten was cute, but I think you beat him. His name is Entourage, and I just got him perhaps 3 weeks ago. He's 3 months old, so quite a big larger than Dizzy. However, since Enty juts happens to chase his tail so much, the name Dizzy might be more applicable for him.

My cat = Psychotic.

Calling a cat Entourage is just unnecessarly cruel. All the other cats will take the piss out of it.

Posted by Vogon Poet (Member # 393) on :

Keep your deviant urges to yourself, Timothy. She's looking at his tail, which twitches in a beguiling manner. She's learned better than to attack it, though.

Posted by Siegfried (Member # 29) on :

I'll add to the cuteness alert. While cleaning out all the pictures I have for my home page, I discovered this picture of my sister's cat Tyler from a few years ago when he was but a wee little kitten:

Picture of Tyler

Also, Lee, I was re-reading one of your earlier posts in this thread about your kitten's meow. The silent meow is not an uncommon thing in kittens. One of my cats, Kalli, did the same thing as a kitten. In fact, we didn't hear her actually start meowing until she was about a year old.

Posted by Vogon Poet (Member # 393) on :

Well, in the cat-carrier in the car yesterday, she was extremely vocal. Started out as a squeak, but was getting toward a near-perfect meow by the end.

Tyler, eh? I'm assuming he's turned into quite a fluffy little critter. Cute too. 8)

Posted by Siegfried (Member # 29) on :

Tyler is a cute little fuzzball. He's gotten MUCH better over the years; I need to find a recent of him. But he's a silver Himalayan Persian, and my sister and I decided that it's best to describe his fur as like a cotton ball only softer. While his thick soft hair and pleasing to pet, it's horrendous to try and clean up all the hair he sheds.

As an interesting aside, that picture of Tyler was before he became "less than a man." At that time, he'd play with anyone and anything. Then my mom and sister took him to Dr. Russell to be a fixed. He's the first cat I've ever known who's been fixed and realized his testicles were missing. Since then, he hates every single man that comes into the house (because the vet was a man) except for myself, my dad, and my sister's boyfriend. I can't believe he was able to deduce that a strange man stole his balls.

When my sister moved out, she took Tyler. Now Tyler needed some shots, so my mom and I got stuck taking him to the vet (the same one that robbed Tyler of his manliness). Tyler was NOT a happy kitty. He hissed and growled the whole time, attacked the cute young vet assistants, and it took one of the assistants and myself to hold the cat down as Dr. Russell injected him.

Just so you know, Platypii have sharp venomous barbs on thier hind feet, that allow them to kick and cause very painful wounds. i don;t think it's life threatening, i saw it on discovery channel so it's true.

Right now I'm not happy. I'm not happy AT ALL. My girlfriend's lodger was supposed to be in last night to feed the cats. If she wasn't gonna be, she could have called, and we'd have stayed there last night. But no, and so when Kate got home tonight she found the kitten had been in by herself for 24 hours without food. I am fucking furious.

Posted by Jubilicious (Member # 99) on :

*screws up her face the way she does whenever someone talks about mistreating animals* I HATE it when people do that.... One time someone said they'd watch our cats while we were gone for the week... well, it's a good thing we left the toilet seat up and the door to the bagged cat food open..... *sigh*... my poor kitties were so very lonely when we got there. But at least they weren't dying of hunger.

My mother did something a few months ago that was so awful I almost decided not to speak with her ever again. My cat, pepper, was sick with something, and it was serious.... but she kept neglecting to take him to the vet. Because she "didn't have time" and she "thought he was getting better". He almost DIED.

I have to stop talking about this, it's making me cry.

Posted by MaGiC (Member # 59) on :

My friends cat has been poorly, she couldn't afford to take her to the vet so I did. I love cats and want everyone to know I would never REALLY contemplate a cat curry.

Lee, BTW if you do ever have a litter of little grey furballs I'll take one.

Well, we'll see. I worry that your other two will pick on her. It'll be like Cinderella and the two ugly sisters (but don't tell them I said that!).
