I won't bother giving you the extremly gruesome details, but for the last 36 hours or so I've been very ill. I swear I have lost at least a couple of pounds beacuse I haven't been able to eat any solid food other than light soup crackers during the time I was ill.

To top it all off, this morning, I wake up feeling better only to see my mother extremely pissed to find that the car battery she had just gotten replaced is starting to fail on her. She's heading toward goodyear as I write this to yell at mechanics.

You were gone? I don't think anyone here noticed, but hey...

*sniff* And now depression sets in along with terrible gas. If only I could fart I'd feel better...........

Sounds like she has a short in her electrical system not a bad battery, but most mechanics these days don't test anything they just replace parts. Hope your fart came out ok.

Thanks. For the last 12 hours or so I've been taking anti-gas medicine. It isn't helping that much.

Sorry MIB, but when I read this I just burst out laughing. It just reminded me of my Dad and this things that he comes out with (from his mouth that is, not his arse!)

Try eating prunes: they helped my Dad - and don't we know it! HEHE

I don't have any prunes. The gas has passed for the most part, but now I'm suffering from bad muscle aches. You don't want to know where these aches came from. Pain killers don't help, but bitching about it on Flare does a little bit.

That's the spirit man! Whinge, whinge and whinge! You might even be soooo successful that you stealt my title of "King Whinger"!

HEHE!

(Oh yes, I can imagine where the aches are)

"Whinge?" Do you mean "whine?"

Posted by The_Tom (Member # 38) on :

No, he means "whinge," a perfectly acceptable word used in the entire English-speaking world except the US.

Posted by TSN (Member # 31) on :

Apparently, the Old English word for "whine" evolved into "whine" in the south, and "whinge" in the north (Scotland and such). That's what I glean from the Oxford English Dictionary, anyway.

OMG!!!! You don't know what whinge is and means!!

I thought I had heard everything!

Faints

Sorry. We "cannae" all be aware of every word in every dialect of the language.

That doesn't stop people from demanding you learn all their subtle linguistic differences.

Right on! HEHE!

No, but if you weren't the lazy country on Earth, you could have probably figured it out. We managed to guess that Americans call trousers "pants" without a guide book. Besides, we haven't demanded. Shik tried to correct someone over daring to use a non-American word. And he's used "soulbond" in several posts, so he can hardly talk.

"Sorry. We "cannae" all be aware of every word in every dialect of the language."

Now, to be fair, "cannae" is quite a small regional word. "Whinge" is used in the entirety of the UK, Australia, and Canada. There's a teeny difference there.

Southeners also say "whinge" more than "whine", so the Oxford English Dictionary is wrong. Burn it.

I was under the impression "cannae" was just the phonetic spelling for how "cannot" sounds with a Scottish burr. And thus, not a different word.

(In much the same way that I pronounce 'color' as 'keller' ... my pronunciation of the word has nothing to do with whether or not its a different word then anyone who pronounces it 'color'.)

You pronounce "color" as "keller!?" I suddenly have the most curious feeling to have a telephone conversation with you to hear what other words y'all North'ners are butcherin'.

Posted by Malnurtured Snay (Member # 411) on :

Actually, I have what I have been told is a 'southern' accent (ickity-ick) by my friends from NY and Boston and there-a-bouts.

I'm not exactly thrilled by it. Grrr.

Well, if the Northerners say you sound Southern, and the Southerners say you sound Northern, and you live in Baltimore, you probably have a "Mid-Atlantic" accent (whatever that is; I've just heard the term before). Of course, if you pronounce "color" like "keller", maybe your accent is just something screwed-up...

And figuring out what "pants" means isn't hard. Even in England, pants are still something you wear in the same location. But "whinge"... Sounds like some sort of piece of machinery. "Pull that lever and crank the whinge", or something...

Posted by CaptainMike (Member # 709) on :
