I'm trying to save a very large collection of files on my HD (total 500 MB) on to a CD-R. I have a Matsushita 8/4/32 CD-RW, and it came with NTI CD-Maker. Every CD I write out is done in 4x in order to have better writing control while saving time.

Here is the problem: In two attempts to save to the CD-R, I am getting a whole wack of missing files. NTI CD-Maker checks the finished CD to ensure that the CD is okay. In other words, for every 100 files I try to write on to the disc, it detects that 10 files have not been written to the CD-ROM. I have checked and verified this.

My friend and I are in agreement that this is not a problem with the writer, rather, it may be a software problem. Truth is, I've never had this kind of problem before until recently when my Hard drive was wiped clean.

Ideas?

Re-Install the sofeware, check the companies site for patches, try to find compatiable software to try, after double and tripe checking the setting again....

My last computer had problems with the CD-R drive like you describe.. try lowering the write speed, thats how i helped my problem. Even though i had enough speed/memory to use the higher write speed, for some reason it wouldnt work until i tried slower

Use CDRWin, Fireburner, Nero, or CloneCD. Do not - repeat, do not - trust any other burning software.

Also, the brand & quality of the CDR's themselves matters a great deal. Avoid the cheap ones, as they tend to be... 'unreliable'.

I've been using Imation for quite a while. They have been proven to be quite reliable and I have never had any problems with them until now.

I do have a copy of Prassi Primo CD as well from my girlfriend. If I wanted to, I could get a copy of Adaptec's EZ CD Creator.

I'm running low on CD's anyway. I'll probably pick up a batch of Memorex CDs on my way home tonight.

I use NTI all the time and have seldom had a problem burning anything. I've wasted mybe 3 disks in over a year and burned near 100. So, I don't think it is your choice of programme, but it may need to be re-installed.

Though it's hard to imagine any reason why you would want to...

I used to use EZ Creator, it sucked. When I connected the CD-R (an HP) up to a HP PC running Win2000, I found a whole new utility created by HP that was a lot better.
