Just for the sake of curiosity, how many of you folks smoke? (cigarettes)

Posted by Yamashiro Den (Member # 510) on :

i don't smoke cigs, only herb.

I recently quit. Which means, I'll be smoking again sometime, probably.

Nope. I plan on living a long life. Killing myself slowly is not appealing to me.

I enjoy the feel of the toxic smoke rolling in to my lungs...

or

I just don't have the umph to quit, so I will die a miserable death hacking up bits of lung...

Either way it doesn't matter, since we will all die regardless....

Oh, also, I do not smoke, nor in fact do I do anything else interesting.

I don't smoke. I tried a cigar at my friend's wedding a couple years ago, but I was told my face turned green. Some of my friends and family members smoke, though. I figure they make up for me not smoking.

is smoking interesting? i didn't notice.

Ha ha! I beat you by mere seconds! I shall now make love to your pumpkin!

*hums the Fugees song* [Smile]

No.

Roberta Flack. I think.

Nope. Lori Lieberman. Written by Charles Fox and Norman Gimbel.

Yes, magnus, it's incredible how Lauryn Hill can pervert things. Give me Frank Valli's "Can't take my eyes off you" anyday.

Anyways, my mom quit smoking when I was 11. I've never even thought of beginning. I've tried the sensation a couple of times at parties, for the hell of it, but it really offends me. In fact, I hate it. The smell, the taste, the sound, the look. Even my sixth sense doesn't like it.

Yes, when I apply my sixth sense to nearby smokers, all I see is dead people. They're dead, they just don't know it yet. :.D

Posted by Yamashiro Den (Member # 510) on :

well, so are you, since you are nearby these smokers and second hand smoke is even more harmful that first hand. [Smile]

''Killing Me Softly With His Song' is an all time classic song and a massive number 1 hit for Roberta Flack in 1973 and The Fugees in 1997. The subject of the song is, of course, Don McLean. The story of how the song was written after Lori Lieberman saw Don in concert at the Troubadour in LA was told in a newspaper article from April 1973. You can view a scan of this article and read the story. The print is fairly small.

"second hand smoke is even more harmful that first hand."

Another 20kb off of the servers we'll never see again. [Frown]

i was just telling the truth, unless of course you breathe through a cigarette filter, in which case second hand and first hand smoke would be about the same for you.

I don't smoke. I can hardly even be in the same room w/ someone who's smoking. I have to breathe as little as possible to avoid coughing (which becomes rather painful after a few minutes of doing it constantly).

I'm with Tim.... my grandparents used to smoke, and I could hardly stand it THEN... now that they're gone and I haven't been around it in years, it's even harder to take....

Smoking - pleh.

Like Simon, I do not smoke, despite having tried it a couple of times. Unlike him, I did do something interesting once.

Time out:

Why exactly would second hand smoke be worse than first hand?

I can come up with a convoluted mathematical explanation when we're talking about a large number of people, but I have the feeling thats not what you're getting at...

I've heard that second-hand smoking is worse than first hand, too. I thought it was nearly common knowledge. I've probably heard the why of it some time in the past, but it escapes me at the moment.

Not a smoker, by the way.

Posted by Ritten (Member # 417) on :

I think that it is do to the fact that smoked smoke has been filtered through the cigarette filter and my lungs.... and the wispy smoke hasn't been...

as Ritten said, smoke off the tip of the cigarette hasn't been filtered by anything.

It's still not comparable to the plethora of other ailment-bonuses a smoker can take part of; bad blood-circulation, bad teeth, destroyed lung tissue, AOT.
Plus, we non-smokers can choose not to be in smokey places, my gf and I always skip the restaurants/caf's where it's too much.

Smokers, otoh, mostly don't have the choice or mental strength to quit, and so must get exposed, albeit with the "filters" (although many people I know roll themselves, without filter).

So, the proverbial "nyah", then. :-)

Whatever, screw the assumptions on both sides.
I want to see numbers.

How would you show numbers anyway? It's going to be quite hard to say:

"Oh yes, that person would have lived another two years if he hadn't gone out clubbing every Friday while he was at university."

Isn't it? Eh? EH?

Posted by TSN (Member # 31) on :

Eh.

Quiet you.

or he'll eat poo. see, it rhymes with "quiet you"! yay!

Don't smoke. Don't think I could without hacking up a lung. And then I would only have one lung left, which the smoking would disease and ....

ack. Never post while on cold meds, kiddies. Not good.

I tried smoking once. I was mostly doing it to impress a girl. I smoked American Spirits becuase they are the same kind David Lynch smokes. But then I quickly found out that I had about half the lung capacity I'd had before and so couldn't play sax like I used to and the girl wasn't into me anymore, so I stopped.
