. . . copy a VHS tape to DVD using my PC and (obviously) my video player?

Is it a simple thing to do or would it be best to get a specialist to do it? If the answer is the latter, where in the East Midlands region of the UK can I find such a specialist.

Ta very much!

Oh yeah, just thought - my video only plays PAL (as opposed to NTSC-format). Is there a way to make my video play both formats?

1) hook up your VCR to your PC (use video-in, etc)
2) make an .avi / .mpg / .whatever of the tape
3) insert an empty DVD into your DVD burner
4) write the file to disc

(Obviously, these are only the basic steps, but you're smart enough to figure out the rest on your own [Smile] )

Re: your other question: no. PAL & NTSC are image formats, and your VCR needs to understand one to play one.

This isn't meant to sound patronising, but are you sure your video recorder only plays PAL tapes? Pretty much all VHS machines released over here for the past 6 years are dual format, and it's so widespread that it's not even mentioned anymore. It's the same with TVs, almost all of them can display a 50hz PAL screen, or a 60hz NSTC screen.

Yes I'm sure. I originally got the NTSC version of a video and only 1 VCR in the house played it. Now that's broken I've ordered the PAL version so that I'm prepared for any VCR. I put the NTSC video in my VCR and all the TV screen shows is white lines across it and the sound is practically non-existant. Proof that not all VCRs are dual-mode. It's a SHARP VCR by the way.

Cartmaniac - instead of a DVD, would a CD-R be OK as it's all I've got? I'm guessing that the *.avi/*.mpg file would then only be playable on the PC, but that'd be OK, just as long as I have a copy.

This is a fairly good enough place to ask this: Anyone know how to convert clipboard files to .jpeg or .bmp files? I have a screenshot from SFC that I'd like to convert. But can't quite figure out how to do it, if it's even possible.

You've tried pasting it into Paint and saving in the desired format?

PAL is obviously superior, because it's a higher resolution than NTSC. We rule.

"We" you're a video format now? let alone plural?

Now you see my point....

Liam & PAL would be the plural though.

I tried loading it into paint, but pasting it... I'll give it a try.

Well, we are back to that thing about what kind of software you have....
