Looks like it has been done.

When I watched on ST I wondered how long it would take to really make it... cool

But, dude, where's my warpdrive?

Still, 17 years isn't bad at all.

Cool. But this is, like, really old news. [Razz]

eek!

Is this a useable substance?

Two months is really old?

Any substance is useable, such as hemp making a nice rope, where as sand doesn't quite give you the same lift.....

Next time you read the date, make sure to double-check the year. That thread is from February 2002. [Razz]

I thought that I had already heard about this.
I guess I'm not going senile after all.

Yes, I did misread it, damn it.

Just as a tangent - why are they still using transparent aluminium in the 24th century - infact why even in the 23rd.

It IS just aluminium after all - why not transparent tritanium? (or what ever the hull plating is made of)

I still find it ironic that in ST4, the matrix for Transparent Aluminum was made on a Apple Macintosh.

How is that ironic?

Also notice pie charts pop-up etc when Scotty's just pushing a few buttons! [Smile]

Well, he uses his body mass to his advantage, his "polish sausage"-fingers able to press three buttons at the same time, for great combinations!

Yes, but it'll never replace styrofoam for disposable plates!

I'm not sure I'd *want* his body mass to replace styrofoam in *any* of the current applications of the stuff...

As for transparent aluminum applications, the "gunsight" one suggested in the article might offer a great way to simulate desert sandstorm fighting conditions. For combat applications other than that, I'd prefer something that was actually *clear* and not just "transparent".
