As I post this, it's 3:18 p.m. and it feels like twilight is setting in.

The sky has the feel of heavy cloud cover, but it ain't rain or clouds, it's smoke. The sky to the east of my house is darkening, it basicly looks like a storm is gathering in that direction.

And I don't live anywhere near the fires.

I've lived here a lot of years, and I've seen a great many fires, but these may be some of the worst. In terms of homes lost from Simi Valley to Big Bear to San Diego, it's going to be devastating.

It's Sauron rising again in Mordor.

Yesterday, California State University Northridge had to close due to the smoke in the air from the Simi Valley fire. Today, the campus opened but with a very minimal amount of students showing up for class. It was very crappy yesterday and for the remainder of the year.

"It was very crappy yesterday and for the remainder of the year."

That is neat.

With the Edgar Cayce.

Jay is obscured....

I bet my brother is happy he's not living in Simi Valley anymore... His ex-wife and kids too....

"It was very sooty yesterday and for the remainder of the year."

I heard someone on the news mention arson. That would be really lame.

"Well, he had a tan, but then this is California. . ." "Aha! So he had dark skin, so he must have been an Arab, therefore this is the work of Al-Qaeda! Let's invade Iran!"

Wow, you people in the mainland have a lot of brushfires don't you? The last one that was in Hawaii was around 1983. WAY before my time.

Are you lod enough to use the internet without supervision then???

I've been near a couple of forest fires in northern MI, but nothing as bad as the ones out west....

I heard that one of these fires was started by a guy lighting a signal fire to get his lost self rescued, and now they are persueing arson charges against him.... Like charging people that get lost in the wilderness to be rescued, first time, okay, after that you should have learned....

Fireproof computer?
They said the asbestos laptop bag was a bad idea but you showed them...
Showed them all!

Man, that does suck, hopefully fully insured and no deaths or injuries.

THe news shows single homes remaining out of entire neighborhoods....

Kidding aside, that totally bites.
I went through the same thing in hurricane Andrew.
The whole subdivision I grew up in was flattened.

Or did it just seem smaller since you got taller???

Posted by Jason Abbadon (Member # 882) on :

I must have got a lot taller overnight.

Kinda of liberating in a strange way: all my childhood roots were severed in just a few hours.
I live only 40 miles away from there now, but have'nt gone back or seriously thought about it since.

See?
Everyone's childhood should be erased by natural disasters.

I now live about 20 minutes from the house I lived in when first born. I was last by it in January when Laura was here. Still looks practically the same.

The house I grew up in was torn down to build a doctor's office.....

You should walk in, point to where your old bedroom used to be and announce "That's the first place I ever jacked off!" [Big Grin]

But the office doesn't have a second floor, I'd have to stand on the roof and point in to open air....

Um, I, uh, mean, that, umm, err..... [Big Grin]
