We Won!!!!!!! [Big Grin]

First major trophy England's won since 1966. Australia played very well and it was a very close run thing but in the end we won so there [Wink] .

For some reason, I find it very easy to contain my excitement. [Wink]

Wow, that is so, well, umm, I dunno....

Congrats I guess.....

Rugby? Where's an important sport when you need it? [Razz]

Hey! Look! Football is on! GO BILLS! (smash) Ouch! Another week without a touchdown.

The All Blacks dinked up their shot at it. It all became less interesting at that point. But go UK! You kicking nancies.

I find it so strange that even though rugby is harder (no forward passes) and more violent than american football, they still have less gear.

Some of them wore earguards and gloves, at least. If my ear was torn loose and hung against my temple, I'd probably toss any number of cookies.

Yes, mine and others....

You only won because of that little twirp Johnny Wilkinson... just think of how much MORE money he's going to get now?

England didn't win very convincingly.

But well done, I guess you have to win something, sometimes - law of averages and everything. [Smile]

On top of all that - I'd have to say that was one of the most exciting games of Rugby I've seen in a long time!!

And for all those who scoff at Rugby - the Rugby World Cup is the third largest sporting event behind the Olympics and the Soccer World Cup.

"England didn't win very convincingly."
Are you saying the the Australians should have won, and that there was foul play????

Oh, this is sports, not politics... Nevermind....

You foreigners have your own sports now?!?
Bad enough we allow you free will, but this...

Our Indianapolis 500 is still the largest single-day sporting event in the world though [Wink]

I'm saying they won in the dying seconds of the second extra time of the final match... by 1 field goal kicked by Johnny Wilkinson.

Yeah, but who outside the US actually watches that? B)

A lot more then you think.

Far more than I would have believed....

Who outside the US watches ANY American sport?
I watched about five minutes of baseball once (broadcast at about 2am on Channel 5) and was almost bored to tears and that's saying something considering I can sit through about two hours of cricket and still be amused by the Australians' and their funny coloured nose cream.

blernsball?

Posted by Balaam Xumucane (Member # 419) on :

Yeah, don't watch baseball. Football (American football) is a little more fun to watch, but it's less exciting than Rugby and it's harder to recognize the players with all that gear. Where's the humanity, I ask you?

Well, their names are printed in large letters across their backs. And they have even larger, individualized numbers that can help if you can remember them.

I mean, how many players in a given game could you match names to faces for, anyway?

Well, yes like I said it was a very close run thing between two very good teams and an excellent game. Whinging Aussie syndrome appears to be making an appearance... [Wink] [Razz] [Big Grin]

Oh, well, you have me there, it isn't two bad teams trying to see who is the ruler.... [Wink]

TSN: "Well, their names are printed in large letters across their backs. And they have even larger, individualized numbers that can help if you can remember them."

Hmm.
(yes I'm gonna do it!)
Reminds me of...any other major teamsport in existence.

Posted by Balaam Xumucane (Member # 419) on :

And it's different with the names and numbers if you haven't been paying attention all season and don't know the players' statistics. They are just these largish blobs of padding with logos and numbers painted on them and big plastic balls where their heads ought ot be. It's not the same as, "Ooooh, that's the ruddy blonde guy with the scar who was scowling at the skinny guy with the freckles so much on the last try." or whatever. Or not. Nevermind.

Oh they're just whinging because they've been deprived of a good old fashioned pommie bashing.

Well, I could manage between 50 and 100 footballers, and I'm fairly shit at stuff like that. I'm sure most people who have been watching it since they were, say, 6, could get many, many more.

I think Whinging is usually associated with "Pommie" not "Aussie". [Razz]

Does anyone else think that Martin Johnson is a Neanderthal!?!?! [Big Grin]

I used to play quite a bit of Rugby and I've always been quite impressed that those American football players can get more than ten feet with all that bulky nonsense on.
Those helmets must really restrict their vision, it's no wonder they let them pass forward, it's probably the only direction that they can see.

Seam? As in pants?

And what evidence? Me? On here? I'm talking TRADITIONALLY. [Razz]

I'm sure you mean trousers.

And you go right on being traditional, it won't win you the cup back.
