I just realised that March sees the 5th anniversary of this incarnation of the Flare Sci-Fi Forums!

Five years?
Man, we're getting slow and rigid in our old age.

Posted by Jason Abbadon (Member # 882) on :

This from the man who's name means "snot". [Big Grin]

Posted by Species 1162 (Member # 1162) on :

Here's to another 5!

Posted by Jason Abbadon (Member # 882) on :

I second that.
We'll make a cynical athiest of Omega yet!

Posted by Wraith (Member # 779) on :

That may take slightly more than 5 years...

just as long as it doesn't take 5 years for me to earn a title other "junior member" under my name... [Roll Eyes]

"We'll make a cynical athiest of Omega yet!"

And with any luck, we'll also make a decent speller out of you. B)

Posted by Charles Capps (Member # 9) on :

DAMNIT. I totally forgot. I even revived the old Flare design and tested it in the moderator's forum... I was gonna spring it on you guys on the 12th, which is the official date.

Posted by Jason Abbadon (Member # 882) on :

Probably about the same odds on those two goals, I'm afraid.

Posted by TheWoozle (Member # 929) on :

Yeah, what he said...

First Officer's Lounge Post

How many of these guys are still here?

Posted by Topher (Member # 71) on :

Aethelwer/The Shadow/Frank G posts now and again
Daryus Aden is still here
Jeff Raven is still here
Sol System is still here
Charles Capps is still here (duh)
Bernd posts now and again
Siegfried is sometimes around
TSN is still here

"How many of these guys are still here?"

Quite a lot, actually.

Aethelwer: has ALWAYS been here. B)
Baloo: popped up a while back, but has reallifeingitis.
Bernd: when he's not at EAS, he's here. Or not.
Charles: bearded, but not overgrown. Yet.
Daryus: currying on.
Excalibur: MIA.
Jay: jazzing the flameboard. B)
Jeff Raven: stalks the Star Wars forum. And liberals.
MaGiC: still practices her wizardry. B)
Montgomery: MIA.
Orion: MIA.
RW: gone.
Ryan: moderates Enterprise. Or would, if he were around more. B)
Siegfried: out developing the web and semi-regular.
Simon: well, he's immortal. B)
Tahna: Faithfully takes out the trash in General Trek despite his adversity to garbagemen. B)
Timmy: fat and ubiquitous as ever. B)
Xentrick: MIA.

Posted by Jason Abbadon (Member # 882) on :

Now tell us how many have gone MIA or are residing with the fishes.

Posted by deadcujo (Member # 13) on :

I'm still here, but no one knows me because I only post five times a year. [Big Grin]

Posted by PsyLiam (Member # 73) on :

Why was Simon lying on the floor?

And where was I? Such an austicious day, and I am curiously absent. Why did no-one notice? Where is my love?

Posted by PsyLiam (Member # 73) on :

And I want to draw attention to this:

Not the self-pity, for that is Simon's stock in trade. Nor the Simpsons reference (even though Simon usually quotes more obscure passages, and doesn't name where they are from).

No, I want to question that thing floating at the end of his post. Any explanation, Mr Sizer?

Posted by Nim (Member # 205) on :

For the occasion, then...

Playlist: Ricky Nelson - Poor little fool
Potent Potable: Kirschberry Fortified Wine (jus' a small snifter)
Clock: 23:59

I raise my glass to you, Flare, and the rest of you thingies, here's to another Five Fudged-up Years! *sblort*

*Flare national anthem playing*

Simon 1999 is a little childbaby who likes to use smileys and is still angsty like he is now despite being littler and childbabier.

Posted by Jason Abbadon (Member # 882) on :

Who's the Doctor Who extra in the pic?

Nice scarf, mary. [Wink]

Posted by Grokca (Member # 722) on :

Wow! Jay was killing threads even way back then.

Posted by Sol System (Member # 30) on :

Those were dark times.

Posted by Manticore (Member # 1227) on :

As opposed to what else on this forum?

[Razz]

Posted by Fleet-Admiral Michael T. Colorge (Member # 144) on :

Crap... I've been here since 1999. Hmm, its about the same time I broke up with my last boyfriend and I'm still single...

Posted by Charles Capps (Member # 9) on :

*edit* NM, misread.

Pssst, for a good idea of who's still around, click the 'directory' link in the upper left...

Posted by AndrewR (Member # 44) on :

Yeah - i'm here (i started the thread b'oh!) although I usually seem to be left off little 'lists' like the one above... [Frown] [Big Grin]

I guess I don't leave THAT much of an impression on you people! [Smile]

If it's 5 years since the start of this incarnation of Flare... how long has it been since the original message board. Was that the UP3 board or the Communications Relay?

Posted by TSN (Member # 31) on :

The missing Flarites from that thread:

Baloo: last posted June 2003
Ryan McReynolds: last posted June 2003
RW: last posted September 2002
Orion Syndicate: last posted August 2002
Xentrick: last posted December 2000
Montgomery: last posted March 2000
The Excalibur: last posted June 1999

Baloo and RW both disappeared long before the dates listed here. They simply both resurfaced for short periods.

I have the sneaking suspicion that The Excalibur became someone else at some point. Is that true?

"If it's 5 years since the start of this incarnation of Flare... how long has it been since the original message board. Was that the UP3 board or the Communications Relay?"

UP. Not UP3. As realized in its name, UP3 is the third version. Thus, later than the original.

And it's been almost seven years since that started.

Posted by AndrewR (Member # 44) on :

Sorry - UP - used to typing UP3 for that non-existant page that was supposed to be created! [Smile]

7 years seems about right... I went online in 1997... posted at that Trekweb for a while before I found a nicer board... [Smile]

Posted by Nim (Member # 205) on :

Jase: "Nice scarf, mary. [Wink] "

Why thank you, Deirdre.

Posted by Cartman (Member # 256) on :

.

Posted by Cartman (Member # 256) on :

"I usually seem to be left off little 'lists' like the one above..."

That's because (and I know this is a leap) it was a list of people who posted in Baloo's thread. Which you didn't.

Posted by AndrewR (Member # 44) on :

ahhh ok [Smile]

I probably posted to the tech page instead. [Smile]

another five year mission then?

Posted by The359 (Member # 37) on :

Hey, I've been here since the beginning of this forum, and all it's previous incarnations. I still remember posting on the original Utopia Planitia message boards.

And I'm still here!

dont know man, the second 5 year mission is apocryphal isnt it? Do we have to wear the TMP pajamas?

Oh obligatory reference to board longevity. Ive been lurking for at least 4 years, but as you can see I dont post much.
[Smile]

5 Years.

Gosh, when I look at that, I FEEL OLD!!!!

Posted by Manticore (Member # 1227) on :

If the past five years has been a five-year-mission, and we're leading to a second, would that make me Decker: new, annoying, incompetent, but brilliant?

[Razz]

Posted by Dat (Member # 302) on :

No.

Posted by PsyLiam (Member # 73) on :

Also, Decker wasn't on the second five year mission (in most versions, anyway).

And...Decker was brilliant?

Posted by AndrewR (Member # 44) on :

Well at the end of TMP you could call him "brilliant" in the light sense of the word. [Smile]

Posted by Cartman (Member # 256) on :

"...would that make me Decker: new, annoying, incompetent, but brilliant?"

No, but you still are three of those things, so don't feel too bad about yourself. B)

That makes you the annoying alien on the bridge that says "What about Captain Decker?" [Wink]

Life, the final frontier...
These are the escapades of CoffeeAddictMike.
His continuing mission, to enduce mass hysteria
To seek out new ways to freak fellow humans out
To boldly fuck with everyone he's never fucked before.

Check out the sheer revulsion on the guy in the foreground.

Posted by PsyLiam (Member # 73) on :

I'm too busy staring at his enormous chin.

Posted by Toadkiller (Member # 425) on :

At least nobody there has a beard....

Posted by Topher (Member # 71) on :

What exactly is it that you're drinking in that picture, Mike?

Posted by Jason Abbadon (Member # 882) on :

Soy Sauce?

Posted by AndrewR (Member # 44) on :

Look at the guy behind Michael... he's like "omg please don't let him talk to me... what is he doing... now they've got a camera out... i'll just sit and stare blankly ahead and not get involved."

Posted by Jason Abbadon (Member # 882) on :

What's with that get-up, Mike?
I think Willis wore that on Diffrnt' Strokes.

We're only so overwhelming critical because we care. [Wink]

Posted by The359 (Member # 37) on :

It's a celebration, bitches!

And it looks like maple syrup. Notice the waffles.

Posted by TSN (Member # 31) on :

"What's with that get-up, Mike?

Well, that may be true. But he is gay, so he must know something about fashion that we don't. The media tell me so.

Posted by Ritten (Member # 417) on :

It has got to be true....

Posted by Jason Abbadon (Member # 882) on :

What's he doing with his other hand?!?

A VERY strange fetish you have there, Mike.

Posted by Fleet-Admiral Michael T. Colorge (Member # 144) on :

This is a photo from my Washington DC trip. It was maple syrup since the group from Cal State Northridge's University Student Union were having breakfast in a waffle house. And no, I just was hiding the ketchup bottle in my other hand since I drank that after the syrup.

By the way Jason, I wore that since it looked good on me. So shut up, bitch! LOL...

Posted by Jason Abbadon (Member # 882) on :

You have a strange idea of what looks good on you, mike.

Though I notice you didint answer what your other hand is doing.... [Wink]

Missed that!

I suppose it's just my nature to think bad thoughts about everyone.

Posted by The359 (Member # 37) on :

You dirty minded person, you...

Posted by Cartman (Member # 256) on :

"The media tell me so."

Well, that picture speaks a thousand words, but "fashionable" definitely isn't one of them.

Posted by Fleet-Admiral Michael T. Colorge (Member # 144) on :

You have to see my whole outfit though before making judgements.... tisk, tisk, tisk.

Posted by Jason Abbadon (Member # 882) on :

It can get worse?

Mabye with platform shoes or a kilt....

Posted by Ritten (Member # 417) on :

But wearing both would be acceptable....

Posted by PsyLiam (Member # 73) on :

I dunno. A jumper like that over a shirt...

I mean, geography teachers dress like that. Honest to god, geography teachers.

Posted by Lee (Member # 393) on :

Monty is doing OK, I had a pint with him a coupla months back. He also remains in contact with Hamayoon (Orion Syndicate) and he's OK. And I'm fine too, in case anyone was wondering why I'm not posting a lot at the moment.

Posted by Ritten (Member # 417) on :

Not according to the Springfield Journal-Register, a man was convicted of Lee slaying...

A medal I'd say....

The Article is gone so I'll have to find the hard copy......

Excalibur: MIA.

Yes, it was me. I was going to start using it again, but I forgot the password, and Chales never returned my e-mail on that one.

Krenim, my computer at home is down for the count. I got tired of dealing with Charter. They couldn't keep the connection working, so I'm not doing SETI right now. You guys have a chance to catch up.

You're not?

Posted by Lee (Member # 393) on :

No, not really.

Posted by Nim (Member # 205) on :

Well it's plain you have your own things to attend to, what with gathering all your cows and chickens and picking out a nice bonnet for your wife and a pair of knee breeches for yourself, so that you can start your emigration the way it should be done, in style.

Just don't axe off your wife's fingers if she starts giving piano lessons to the locals, it'll pass.
