Out of all the things I would ask this forum... I need Harvey Nichols print ads from this year. I'm currently doing a project for my Women's Studies class and need print ads.

You're doing Women's Studies? Isn't it one of the most useless classes you can take?

Posted by Fleet-Admiral Michael T. Colorge (Member # 144) on :

Not really, I personally find it facinating.

So....you're not talking about porn?

That wasn't answering my point though, was it?

It's just a class I took for the hell of it, much like LGBT Studies. I needed to do upper division electives and these are things that I am interested in.

I still need the Harvey Nichols print ad from the Financial Times magazine "How to Spend It" from September 2004.

Man, if only there was some sort of institution where one could go to find copies of print media. I mean, if someone started a business where people could purchase the current issues of major magazines, they'd probably clean up!

"...much like LGBT Studies."

They have that?

How come no-one ever offered me a Middle-class Suburban Straight White Guys Studies course?

Posted by Sol System (Member # 30) on :

That pretty much covers Everything Else.

I need an electronic version of the ads since I'm not allowed to cut up the library's version. Also, the library doesn't carry that magazine.

LGBT Studies has been offered at Cal State University Northridge since the 1990's.

Someone is going to have to tell me what "LGBT" stands for.

The "L" stands for Lesbian. Work it out, bright boy.

Considering that the joke was made about 8 years ago, I say no.

And "transgender"? Isn't that a rather different thing from being gay?

Posted by Sol System (Member # 30) on :

Presumably why it's included as a seperate category.

Posted by TSN (Member # 31) on :

Though, I mean, if you change sex, you kind of have to be gay, one way or the other. Unless you only have sex with transsexuals of the opposite, um... trans... Like, male->female vs. female->male. Thing.

I remember back when it was right. With the women and the men, and we stoned to death the wrong ones.

For saying "Jehovah?"

"Though, I mean, if you change sex, you kind of have to be gay, one way or the other."

Well, no. Being gay means you're attracted to people of the same sex that you are, so you're genuinely homosexual, whereas being transsexual means means you're attracted to people of the same sex that you were, so you're genuinely heterosexual. Except you're not genuinely of the other sex, at least not in the anatomical sense. Or something.

What were we talking about again?

Posted by Fleet-Admiral Michael T. Colorge (Member # 144) on :

Well, Transgender is an umbrella term for people who feel the gender they were assigned at birth does not correspond with their gender identity. I can go into detail the breakdown of this but I doubt people here are interested.

Well, what I meant was... Say you're a guy. But you become a "woman". Now, setting aside bisexuality, you're either attracted to men, or to women. If it's men, you're gay because you're really a man, and you're attracted to men. If it's women, you're gay because, as far as you're concerned, you're a woman, and you're attracted to women.

Basically, some people have issues. Real... issues.

What I was getting at, I think, was that you can be physically a man yet mentally a woman (or physically a woman yet mentally a man) and be attracted to men (or women), in which case you're transsexual, which is different from being physically a man and mentally a man (or physically a woman and mentally a woman) and being attracted to men (or women), in which case you're homosexual. Maybe. Look, it all made sense eleven hours ago.

Posted by PsyLiam (Member # 73) on :

The question that always bothers me is "what makes someone mentally a man"? Aside from obvious jokes like "someone who knows how to reverse park".

"Look, it all made sense eleven hours ago."

That's okay. I'm not sure what I was saying ever made sense.

"The question that always bothers me is 'what makes someone mentally a man'? Aside from obvious jokes like 'someone who knows how to reverse park'."

Uh-oh.

"What makes someone mentally a man?"

Everything that doesn't make someone mentally a woman. Fool.

Ok, back to the reason I started the threat: I need that Harvey Nichols print ad from the Finanacial Times Magazine.

Posted by PsyLiam (Member # 73) on :

The what now?

Posted by TSN (Member # 31) on :

You really think someone here reads Financial Times magazine?

And your library doesn't have inter-library loan and a Xerox machine?

Posted by Lee (Member # 393) on :

I used to work for Financial Times Magazines, believe it or not.

Posted by Fleet-Admiral Michael T. Colorge (Member # 144) on :

i need the magazine that comes with the paper.

WHICH NONE OF US READS SO

I have been considering picking up The Economist, though.

Posted by Wraith (Member # 779) on :

Were you planning to do anything with it after picking it up? I would suggest reading it. It's quite good.

Posted by Sol System (Member # 30) on :

I was going to blow my nose in it, of course, because I don't use tissues, or my sleeve, I don't use napkins, or any of these.
