At least you have power.

(I forget where you're from. I'm guessing Kentucky?)

Now. I didn't have power all of Wednesday. If the power hadn't come back on when it did, I likely would have had to go to a shelter. Never mind the fact that with no TV, internet, radio, telephone, or newspaper I would have had no idea where the nearest shelter was.

That having been said, I am one of the lucky ones. Still quite a few people around here still without power.

Close. West Virginia, i.e., the place that winter crushes after Kentucky. Right now we're having snow move in across the border that was supposed to be light flurries. I stress the word "supposed" because at the time of my original post, it was white-out blizzard conditions that dropped a few inches of snow on us in mere minutes.

All I can tell you is that Option #3 is probably not the best idea. Although the roads may be better tomorrow, Option #3 takes you through Charleston, which was pretty badly hit by snow today. The news was reporting all sorts of accidents on I-64 and I-77.

Things in Michigan finally look like they might start warming up. Next week is supposed to be in the 30's...

It's been so bitterly cold here. I've had a few days of driving to work in near white-out.

I hate winter.

I'm surprised that this doozey missed Buffalo, for the most part. We're already 1.5 times our average snowfall this year. I heard on the news that every school in WV had off sometime last week. They closed the state? Geez...it would take at least 5 feet of snow, with blowing winds ( above 50 mph, mind you), and temps/wind chills below -15 (that's the temp most schools around here start considering closing due to cold), all occurring during one night to close NY.

Still, bad weather sucks, so may it pass you soon.

-15 and they considered closing schools?

If it were like that here schools would be closed for about 3 months, and when it get's to around -30 they consider keeping the kids inside at recess

My alma mater (holy shit, I graduated almost nine months ago) is smack in the middle of Kentucky -- the Centre, one might say -- and it's mandating its students return on Wednesday for classes as usual. (There's an end-of-January break that traditionally ends on a Tuesday.)

Of course, they didn't close for the Civil War, either, and there was a battle not 10 miles away.

Yeah, school was out a lot here. I should know, I'm a teacher, and I didn't have students one single day last week. West Virginia tends not to take winter very well when it does strike (which isn't very often, actually) since even the more populous counties are mostly rural with twisty windy roads and many many hills that make driving a tad tricky even in good weather.

Current status: Much better. The warm sunny weekend has melted most of last week's winter apocalypse. Unfortunately, the forecast calls for the temperatures to plummet again and the snow to return tonight.

*Cringes*

The lowest high temp anticipated here this week is 47 degrees. And sunny.

(Of course, the lowest low temp is due to be around 20...)
