Let's see if we can hold off playing "kill the messenger" until we actually discuss the article's content, hmm?

http://www.newsmax.com/showinsidecover.shtml?a=2002/10/8/175551

quote:
Left-wing Sen. Paul Wellstone, D-Minn., singled out a cameraman for attack by a Democrat mob in Duluth
quote:
"Meidlinger referred to a Republican who attended the event apparently to film Wellstone’s speech.

"As Wellstone began his speech, he thanked the speakers who preceded him and concluded the accolades by thanking the 'Republican cameras,' gesturing to an individual with a digital video camera.

"The cameraman was jostled throughout the speech as activists held signs in front his camera and bumped into him.

"At one point, after moving to a new location, the cameraman was pushed into an apparent union worker who responded with kidney-punches into the cameraman’s side.

"Volunteers rushed to the scuffle and escorted away the cameraman, who held his hands in the air," the Minnesota Daily reported Monday.

quote:
Imagine the widespread outrage and publicity if Republican thugs attacked a Democrat cameraman.
11:00 news, guaranteed.

Does this happen often? If so, then it could be 'standard' tactics....

Now, what was worse, the remark or the crowds actions?

If the point comes up that the crowd was led like sheep, this can go for both parties, so that's no good as an argument....

Overall, in this world, errr, country, the cameraman has got a nice lawsuit and can make big donations to the GOP, so everyone should be relatively happy...

Something about the tone tells me this website has a teensy little bias. But no matter. I just want to know how you spot a Republican cameraman, or a Republican just there to film the speech?

Actually, the quotes are directly from the student newspaper's account of the attack, and not from WorldNetDaily.

The student paper does not seem to have a definitive agenda, although the parts of the article that didn't concern the attack were pretty gushy towards Wellstone.

How Wellstone knew... who knows? Maybe the guy made a mistake by wearing a button for the other guy, or something. Maybe somebody ratted him out. Maybe he didn't have a 'press' badge.

Tit for tat.

Let's see if they can provide any evidence to back it up, other than saying that it isn't so.

Even the article concedes that Belo was never named.

So the question is, what did the supposed insertion contain?

The republican cameraman will be the guy wearing a suit and tie and smoking a cigar while operating the camera, mumbling "Major Mega-dittoes, Big Guy!" everytime a republican politician speaks.

A Republican just there to film the speech will, on the other hand, be operating a smaller camera.
