But this one is interesting in that it's written by a US Reservist currently deployed.

Interesting... I thought that kind of thing was against the rules, since it could be used to track deployments and for other intelligence? Or is that only during official wartime?

Well, given we don't know her (?) name, nor unit, location etc., how harmful can it be?

The current update starts out "While LT enjoys his day off...", so I think "her" might be inaccurate.

Not to mention LT's got a wife ...

She could be Canadian. [Wink]

. . . and the chow tent is serving the same old low-grade burgers, dogs, and freedom fries.
Said with a total lack of irony, even for an American. This 'substitute freedom for French' bullshit is here to stay, isn't it? Well, it could cause problems, especially for Lance Armstrong, strongly tipped to win the Tour de France for the fifth time this year. What's he going to tell the folks back home? That he won the Tour de Freedom?

That is indeed the case. You can't give your location nor unit, tho name isn't necessarily a no-no. However, LT Smash doesn't do any of that, so No Harm, No Foul.

I definitely feel for the guy, as I've experienced almost every one of the situations that he references, tho not the whole removal of the blouse inside thing. While on one deployment, tho, we did have a couple VIP's come thru and were required to wear ours - in the 110+ F degree heat! Talk about military beauracratic BS in action.... [Roll Eyes]

Tragically, yes. Especially among the (disturbingly large) number of Americans who seem to believe that the US is perfect and always right. Just look at this guy's rather interesting version of the American war of independance. And his interesting statement that the Constitution created "the United States of America that we know today." Completely ignoring the huge and radical changes that the Civil War and the various amendments have made.

Not seriously, among normal people. At least not that I know of. Everyone that I've heard say it has been doing so w/ an underlying sense of mocking. And even that isn't very often.

Most people 'round these parts just call 'em "Fries" anyway, no "French" or "Freedom".

Posted by TSN (Member # 31) on :

But what can one expect from people who use phrases like "'round these parts"?

Posted by Lee (Member # 393) on :

Well, I'd expect plenty of words along the lines of "rootin'-tootin'," "shucks" and "dang." 8)

Nobody is saying "freedom fries" with any amount of seriousness, except for the very few nutballs who are so far right they make Rush Limbaugh look like a Socialist...

with one exception...

The anti-anti-French hysterical crowd. They use the phrase more often than any 10 right-wing nutballs. Holy persecution complex, Batman!

This whole "Americans are more anti-French than ever before" thing is manufactured crap. It's a classic example of projection transferrance, like when an alcholic in denial starts telling other people that THEY have a drinking problem.

I know exactly how this 'officer' feels.

Er... no. Freedome Fries is a joke. No one takes it seriously.

And... no. You can't just bring up every little thing that happened between 1776 and today to describe what makes the US the US. Yes, you can bring up the Civil War and such but that sours what the fellow troop is trying to say.

Which is, Fly Boy? Because I'm having a hard time reading between the lines of nationalist tripe and his ruminations on military red tape.

"This whole "Americans are more anti-French than ever before" thing is manufactured crap."

Yeah, like the other concocted bullshit that's been rampant these past few months.

Coming up: thrilling arguments and counter-arguments along the lines of "you smelt it, you dealt it," "I'm rubber, you're glue, what you say bounces off me and sticks to you," and "it's my ball, I'm going home!"

Until those WMDs are found, you'd do best to just shut the fuck up.
