FCC to propose Net Neutrality Rules
quote:
The proposals would uphold a pledge Barack Obama made during the presidential campaign to support Internet neutrality and would bar Internet service providers such as Verizon Communications Inc., Comcast Corp. or AT&T Inc., from slowing or blocking certain services or content flowing through their vast networks.
Comcast (those cocks) are my local monopoly on cable and they had a nice plan to not only limit bandwidth but to limit the number of websites you could visit each month on a particular plan- just like minutes on a phone they say- go over and you pay a premium.

Because, hey, they dont already make record profits every year.

Man, I hope these rules happen.

quote:
The FCC began wading into the issue even before Genachowski became FCC chairman. Last year the FCC rebuked Comcast for blocking or delaying some forms of Internet file-sharing. Comcast agreed to stop the practice.

Did I mention Comcast are a bunch of cocks?

I hope it works. No one should control the internet. Aside from a few safety regulaions to make sure those who use it don't use it malkiciously, conhtnent should be, for the most part, unregulated. There's also a bill that wants to give Obama the power to control the internet, by declaring an "internet security emergency" and shutting down particular networks, in the name of a "cyber security threat" It would also allow any information that is found in a search of any network to be used against a defendant in court, without a warrant. (so a guy whose computer/network is being searched for child porn could also be charged with embezzlement if such stuff is found, despite the lack of a warrant.)

Verizon are a bunch of morons too though. No limiting that I've heard of yet, but they've slowly filled my email page with adds that were minimizable at first, but are now there permanently, taking p page space, meaning that unless I'm on a huge (my current one is 19") monitor, I have a lot of side scrolling to do.

Their service also sucks balls. Our DSL was having problems, i.e. not connecting to the damned internet. So, we called their customer service line, spent 10 minutes on hold, about a half hour trying to explain to a guy that didn't speak much English what the problem was, and after he finally figured out that the problem was with the line some where down the street, he scheduled a service appointment for us nearly a week later. The net came back on on it's own, then went off again (multiple times) over the next week. So, we finally decided to screw it, and get FiOS. That's been good so far. As a sign of good faith towards us, they took $5 off of our bill for the 2 total weeks we were without reliable service. We can't use the service we frickin pay for for half of the month, and they take 10% off of the bill? How thoughtful of them. [Roll Eyes]

How much do you wanna bet the Party of No will find some reason to oppose it and use it to 'prove' how Premier Obama is trying to turn our country into the USSR.

People in my office have spent alot of time on the phone with various customer service departments this week. Supposedly, if you get someone you can't understand, you can ask to speak to someone else who speaks less affected English ("an American", as my boss put it). I've yet to try this, but the last time I was on the phone with someone from Amazon, I was only getting every other word.

I just tried calling travelocity to confirm reservations for a monday flight and was assured that, yes, it's reserved and that my card has been charged.
But Bank of Amerika shows nothing online (those fucks).

It was all I could do not to ask for someone- anyone- with an accent I could fathom. My operator sounded like he was Indian trying to be Texan...or possibly a guy from Texas doing an Apu impersonation.

John McCain to block Net Neutrality

Oh yes. This asshole would have been worse than Bush. Believe it, my brothers.
